Annotate songs in a specific playlist

Postby AllanKikker on 09 May 2016, 20:40

Hello !

I'd like to know if there is a way in Cross (or any other software), to attach notes to a specific tune in the context of a playlist.

What I'm looking to achieve here is to leave some notes as reminders between my prepping sessions like "perfect fit, use hot key 3 as intro", "intro too short, extend 4 bars", "vocal overlap, replace", etc... So that I can fix/play my set later without having to remember what was wrong or what worked great.

If not, I'm curious to learn how you guys organize yourself to do your prep.

Thanks and have a great day !

You can try the "comment" field.

That's the closest workaround I could find so far.
Sadly, this is not really practical as song tags will get quickly bloated with irrelevant informations over time as info is not tied to a specific playlist. :/

I'm curious about other DJ's prepping workflow... :)
Any good knowledge or resource to share ?

I like to use the color tags in Cross to organize my sets, along with comments and labeling the locators with any useful info.

It's still not quite what your looking for, since you seem to want tags to change depending on the playlist. Which is a cool idea but I don't know of any software(DJ or otherwise) that can do this.

Your idea is clear and has some value.

I would doubt if in the end the effort would be worth it. You'll create a lot of info, just as when using the comments field.

If e.g. you have a 'similar' playlist it will quickly get out of sync; so creating confusion over time.

For exchange of playlists there would be a long way to go to have the standards implemented (if at all it would be accepted).

You could consider recording your track with the 'setup' of choice and add this to a specific playlist.

It seems to be the neatest workaround so far. Thanks ! :)
