TRAKTOR S4 MKII Mapping Hurdles

Postby JMaletto on 12 Feb 2016, 15:03

Hey!

New to the forum & the software here. So I've downloaded the Traktor S4 Mapping (I believe it may actually be for the MK1 version, not for the MKII) and have had a few troubles. I've managed to dig in and fix a number of the issues myself, but still have a few problems I'm struggling with. If anyone can provide any advice I'd really appreciate the help. Nearly all of the issues are on the track decks.

1 - PLAY Button (Both Decks). This successfully pauses the song as you'd expect, but does not start it. All it does is cue the song when pressed. This means I still have to press play on my MacBook to get the song started.

2 - The reset tempo button (Both Decks) is not currently connected to anything. I can correctly sync the tempo to the master track, but cannot reset the tempo unless I move the tempo fader to the new sync position, where they then merge and I can then reset the tempo. Would be much better if I could connect the reset button, but cannot find where it is inside the mapping section.

3- Jog Wheels - These are successfully connected, but aren't doing much. Quite a strong turn in each direction only really marginally adjusts the tempo either way, but doesn't actually move the song forward or backwards (as I have it set up in Traktor Pro). I do like the odd spin back!

4- CUE Button on the mixer strips. I've managed to connect this, but it only turns the Cue ON. It does not turn it off, this has to be done manually on the laptop only. The Cue Button itself does not light up either.

5- Final issue in the filter section. The setting, amount & depth all work fine, but connecting the channels to each FX Section does not.

If anyone has any suggestions for even one or two of these, I'd greatly appreciate it. Trying to do my first video mix but it's a little tricky with a few key issues! :?:

Hi, welcome to Mixvibes.

Please register your license key in your user profile. This will help to motivate users to support you.

Likely FigDJ will jump in for some details. From what I notice it seems you have selected toggler/holder the wrong way some times.

1. Are you sure you mapped to the right command? Also check if the Cue command still has this ctrl with a command.

2. pitch reset = set fader value to 50. (middle)

3. not my cup of tea...

4 toggler/hold function I guess

5. input channel for FX 1 and 2?

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

Hey Rojec, thanks for the response. Yes sure thing, just done it now. And yes I think you're right with regards to the toggler/handler selection. Would you mind very briefly explaining what the difference is? Is toggler strictly for rotating dials?

1 - Yes that fixed the play button issue, thanks.

2 - Not sure where pitch reset is/can't seem to find it - is this in the mapping section?

3 - OK haha, well even for mix adjustments that would be pretty useful. I wondered if it's one of the settings next to the wheel (HYBRID, SPEED), or if it's one of the settings within the COMBOJOG section of the mapping. I've tried playing around but no luck so far.

4 - Didn't work initially, so I went into the NI Controller Editor and changed the related MIDI buttons from "Control Change" to "Note", and now it routes to the monitor/headphone output ok.

5 - Do I need to connect the FX Out from each channel on the mixer? Bit confused on this one!

Unfortunately none of the LEDs seem to light up at all, even the signal meters next to the channels. Is this something I might just have to live with?

No. toggle = change value per "push"; hold = change value while pushing (holding)
2 - Not sure where pitch reset is/can't seem to find it - is this in the mapping section?

In mapping go to one of the 'player' sections. Use option "pitch value" to set it to 50 for pitch reset. (you can have multiple controls for a listed command)
3 - OK haha, well even for mix adjustments that would be pretty useful. I wondered if it's one of the settings next to the wheel (HYBRID, SPEED), or if it's one of the settings within the COMBOJOG section of the mapping. I've tried playing around but no luck so far.

it's the combo jog.
the settings you mention are to tell Cross how to handle the key of the sound when changing speed
4 - Didn't work initially, so I went into the NI Controller Editor and changed the related MIDI buttons from "Control Change" to "Note", and now it routes to the monitor/headphone output ok.

Glad it works... audio routing and MIDI are not related... so must have been something else. Can't be related to MIDI mapping as audio and MIDI are handled at different communication layers by the OS...
5 - Do I need to connect the FX Out from each channel on the mixer? Bit confused on this one!

getting confused to... setting "input channel" is what you need to do if I understand you right.... Not fully sure as I don't know the range, but think you need to do +1 or -1 as value to go through the "list" of inputs.
Unfortunately none of the LEDs seem to light up at all, even the signal meters next to the channels. Is this something I might just have to live with?

Setting LED values is "next chapter"; not to useful spending time till knobs work as wanted. However not all can't be controlled. I leave it to others to support you with this.

Meanwhile it is strongly recommended to live with any LED problem you may come across. This would be the only way to solve it if in a future version of Cross also the dynamic leds might become mappable

Ok cool, thanks! :)

Do you/does anyone know how to configure the combojog/jog wheel? I basically just want it work the same way as it does in Traktor Pro
