Moving from Traktor to Cross DJ

Postby gontie on 13 Nov 2015, 23:07

Hello,

I am testing on a test computer Cross demo to see whether i could pass to Cross DJ.

My desire to move to Cross DJ is simply because the behavior when mixing is better than on Traktor, at least to my impression.

I just have two issues to start.

1 when i drop CUE and Play together, it doesn't start at my CUE point but always a bit further. Why ?

2 I am using a Hercules RMX (link : http://www.mixvibes.com/sites/default/f ... 0Rmx_0.pdf) and the issue is that i can only move to another song in the list with the up and down button. How can i also go into a folder without using the mouse ? On traktor it is possible to do this wih the jogwheel to browser in a list.

Any help if really highly appreciated.

Hello,

I have found the cue point drop issue, i have set it on the beat.

More problematic, the button CUE/MIX for headphones is not working correctly, i need to move it multiple times for that it does work.

No issue on the same computer with Mixxx and Traktor.

For the Cue position you have to get yourself familiar with the quantize feature. Button is on top as well as the values you can use.

for the CUE/Mix issue it is simple, I have to turn the button multiple times to CUE to be able to listen to the CUE only, the same for the Mix.

I see the button indicator on the software not following exactly my button.

the sync is also really not precise. is there something which can be done for that.

.

 what button are you talking about ,, its a rotary knob ,if you have to turn it :?: are you talking about the rotary knob at the top right/middle knob labeled master /mix ,, this knob allows for master out and the cue to be played in the master out ,, by turning counter clock wise this only playes the cue /monitor , by turning fully clockwise it put master out to headphones ,,
the headphone icon/button in the mixer section enables sound to the cue monitor section of your sound card ,,
have you read thru the topic that deals with the rmx set up ,might help you ,,

thanks, it is exactly this button I am speaking about.

it doesn't respond correctly. i don't understand why it does not respond correctly only in Cross.

it remains the same MIDI controls.

is there also anything I could do to improve the beat detectionl which is very bad. Mixxx and Traktor are way better in that domain.

but mixing in Cross with Eq are much closer to real feeling on a mixer than Traktor.

There is no such thing as the same MIDI control unfortunately.

It is true that each knob, fader, jog, button or whatever always sends the same MIDI signal to the PC. But there things can go wrong when it comes to the software correctly interpreting those MIDI signals.

I had some problems with my DDJ-SX for example where I had to move all my channel faders to full on/full off when I started the software (solved now). After that it worked great for the rest of my session.

It might be something as simple as "teaching" the software again the right interpretation. It can be a fault in the mapping or a setting somewhere.

If it's a standard and official Mixvibes mapping, you are correct in assuming it SHOULD work correctly out of the box. Sure the fine folks here at the forums will help you sort it out.

With regards to the beat detection, Traktor has the worst beat detection in the industry! If it isn't electronic with a tight beat, that is it, Traktor can't handle it. Mixvibes on the other hand can handle just about anything you throw at it and it's pretty simple to correct when it does get things wrong.

Don't forget this is a tool to HELP you, not to do your work FOR you.

I add a maximum of 5-10 tracks a month to my collection (and throw the same number out). It is VERY little work to check the beatgrid Mixvibes sets and to correct it if necessary. After that you never have to check it again.

If you add so many tracks that you can't manually check them when you enter them into your collection and you have to depend on beatgridding to be able to use them correctly, you may want to rethink your strategy.

Finally, there is NO software that makes your beat grids so that you can use the sync button 100% of the time. I think getting in the 80's is already really good. This means you still have to manually beat match about 1 in 5 to 1 in 10 tracks (depending on the genres you play). Even if I notice a track I (clearly) didn't check before using it because of the beat grid being off, I make a note to myself to correct it before the next gig and I manually beat match the track. Problem solved.

Also the quantizing in Mixvibes Cross works very well, giving you lots of option of how to work it (beat, bar, phrase).

Hope you get the button thing sorted out. It's no fun when things on your controller don't work as you expect them to.
I can't help you further with this one as a) I don't have that controller and b) I never use the cue/master knob.

You may want to post a copy of the current map that you are using. I could then inspect it for errors.

I've tested Cross 1.5 and 3.01 (underground way) and these issues do not exist. The button works perfectly and the BPM works also perfectly, i can drop a beat directly by pressing the sync button, on the demo version, it is a nightmare, it will never work.

Has the demo an issue ? I don't understand how recent versions can have more trouble.

Maybe related only to the version 3.3.10 ?

I am still also looking for a way to easily go from one folder to another one only with the 4 arrow keys.

Can we make that a fader does only work with a button already activated ? i always setup that way my master to avoid any dangerous errors with the master fader.

I still need to record a mix and listen to it in order to make me a final idea of the software but more i am testing, more i do have feelings like using my mixer, these feelings i don't have with Traktor.

P.S : The underground way was the only was to make more testing, my idea remains to buy an license if i have the result that i am expecting.
