Video Output not working ATI & Windows 10

Postby Raqoon on 13 Sep 2015, 22:32

Hello,

First of all I am using the demo version of the software, as I am contemplating purchasing the full version, however I am running into a serious problem with the video module which is a bit of a deal breaker...

In windows 10, if you enable the video output using the latest ATI video drivers, at best you get a slideshow on your output monitor and at worst (which is usually the case) it will repeatedly crash the video drivers.

If you use an older windows 8 driver, this problem does not occur. I have contacted ATI, but I have received no response from them. The problem is that Windows 10 continuously upgrades your driver on it's own, with no apparent way to stop it from doing so.

It would be great if the software just worked with the current ATI Catalyst drivers properly.

System Info:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620
RAM: 12 GB DDR3-1600
Video Card: Radeon R7 260X 1 GB
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64bit
This is a tower computer, not a laptop.

Note, the software works properly with an old Nvidia Geforce 9800 card, but this is not an option as this card does not support more than 2 screens, and I need 3 for my particular setup. I have also tested the demo version of Serato, with the latest ATI drivers, and it works without a problem, even though Serato doesn't officially support windows 10.

Anyone have any ideas?

It's a bit hard to judge but it may not be easy to fix this as it might be a bug in the driver. Always funny to read that a non-10 supported products works where as a w10 supporting product has issues...

Have you tried what happens if you use a different screen resolution for your monitor output screen.
Also you could try lower res vids to see if this makes a difference.

Thanks for the response RoJeC

I have tried using different video outputs, and resolutions, and even different monitors and it has had little effect on the output.

The non supported windows 8 driver works
The windows 10 driver doesn't
Works on NVIDIA, not with ATI.

I'm hoping the retailer will take back the card as AMD has been absolutely no help with getting this to work either, and I do blame their shoddy drivers for the problem as it obviously works in the older version.

The frustrating part is AMD's Catalyst software has an auto update feature in it that apparently has no way of being disabled so even if I put the old driver in, within a few days it brute forces the new driver into your system and breaks stuff again.

After doing several hours of troubleshooting, I have concluded that the issue is with AMD's 15.7.1 (currently released) video drivers.

After removing and installing the beta drivers 15.8 the problem seems to have been resolved.

Tested in both Windows 7 and Windows 10 with the 15.8 driver.

Hopefully AMD gets their beta drivers to stable release as soon as possible as Microsoft continues to push out the buggy 17.1 update automatically, which causes MixVibes to malfunction.

Hope this helps someone else.

Great you could exclude Cross as being the cause. And more great that the next driver release likely is to be OK again.

auto updating really can be nasty. Please be aware that also MS updates can be a problem. The default time is 3 am. For quite some DJ's this would be the middle of a gig. So changing this moment might be smart.

Goes to show ... WAIT a while when new OS comes out before upgrading. Give 3rd-party suppliers a chance to get all their drivers up and running and for the OS supplier to iron out the initial bugs.

In the old days I'd say don't upgrade until the first Service Pack. Since there no longer are Service Packs, I'd say wait 3-6 months before upgrading a working system!

There is a saying "if it isn't broken, don't fix it!".
Very true for mission critical systems like DJ laptops.

And if you are going to fix, try to guarantee as much as you can that the fix will actually work.
