Where r the actual .m3u playlist files located for Cross 3+?

Postby Dotcomaniac on 24 Aug 2015, 12:00

I could easily find individual .m3u files in Cross ver 2 with my PC version of the software. This has change it seems for Cross ver 3. I just can't find the files on my PC. I want the actual .m3u files NOT the 'collection' files. Where are they??

Are there such files? I always export a playlist as .m3u when needed.

Also to my best knowledge m3u lists have never been used as a 'live input/output' (not since 1.7).

This basically is what you state by expecting playlists from the collection being live synced upon change.

Or maybe we don't understand what you mean to ask for.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

There should be. There was in Cross ver 2. m3u playlist files in a folder. They pretty universal.

You can use .m3u playlist files in iTunes, WMP, VDJ, or usually about anything else. They just list the files name destination of each track in a database. You used to be able to drop these files into Cross' playlist folder from other programs... or export to where you wanted. I can't seem to do this now with Cross 3 unless i'm just having problems locating the actual saved .m3u files in Cross ver 3.

Still not clear to me what you are looking for. I understand the explanation on playlists. Just not what or where you think playlists were saved in earlier version. To my best knowledge all functions related to m3u handling are there and only have been extended...

In Cross you can still import and export playlists (m3u and txt). Additionally you can do sync to recordbox, export DJ bundle.

The m3u as export only exist when you make them (right click on playlist name). The location is where you want it to be saved...

I'm want the ACTUAL "file folder" with the .m3u playlist files in it. I want be able 'again' (Cross DJ 2.0) to batch copy and paste my Cross DJ playlist .m3u files into any other program's playlist folder (WMP, VDJ, whatever).

I used to be able to do this easily in Cross DJ 2.). I am a Moblie DJ with 20-30 different playlists ever changing. I use multiple DJ & music programs & do not want to do this 1 by 1 manually.

I did this copy and pasting a batches of my playlist files form Cross' playlist folder in 2.0 into other playlist file folder on other programs. They are universal file for playlists. I did this numerous time before.

Please? What folder 'now' on my PC with ver 3.3+ has my m3u playlist files. There are a ton of them and where are they now? I don't know how to be any clearer. I don't need any reference to any Cross DJ import/export functionality. That is not what I'm asking for.

Where is the folder with all the m3u files now???

Think the answer was already there...

Cross doesn't use m3u files as the source for play or smartlists. The data is only stored in the collection database.
Not sure when this changed (never used your way of working). Last structural database change I am aware of was in like 2.6 a couple of years ago.

I suppose you really should have a look at the RecordBox method as most DJ programs support this.
Cross can be set to autosync the RB file upon exit.

I just did some searching in the changelog of older versions and do find some references to playlists in version 2.2. These might indicate the change as it states 'faster load of tracks' in playlists and a fix for tracks with 'special characters'.

It's one of the reason I usually advise DJs to use iTunes (but with a collection EXCLUSIVELY for DJ-ing, so not all your private music in there as well). Both RekordBox and ALL major DJ software (including anything on an iPad/iPhone can use those playlists directly. No need for copying anything. If you change a playlist in iTunes, next time you log into Cross, the changes should be right there.
Going out to play on a club setup? Open RekordBox, pick the iTunes playlists you want, export (with tracks) to your USB stick and off you go.

While I'll be the first to say that iTunes is probably the worst thing ever to come out of Cupertino, if you can get past that (and as an avid hater of iTunes for personal use I have for DJ-ing purposes), it actually offers quite some nice features (like smart playlists) and a universal platform for maintaining your collection.

Just my two cents as usual.
