All versions tried: Cross immediately closes after open

Postby ShotonStage on 17 Jul 2015, 18:36

Hi,

I had a nice working version of Cross 3.1.0 working on a laptop for production use. I've just bought a cushy second hand E6420 and put an ssd in it, for DJ use. I have tried installing and running versions:
3.0.0
3.1.0
3.3.10 32 bit
3.3.10 64 bit
Cross immediately closes after the splash screen. In between every install (about 15 now) I do an uninstall, remove everything that has to do with Mixvibes files, clean the registry,... But to no avail. Sometimes it doesn't even ask my license key (check my user info). Do I have to update the key? I'm quite computer savvy but have no clue here and believe my license is still good.
I use time code vinyl on Sl1200's, working fine on my other laptop - uninstalled Cross though : dumb move :) .
Please advise.
Thank you,
Sigurd

Likely the file named mixvibes.settings is broken.

Remove it and start Cross current version.

C.:/users/username /appdata /roaming/MixVibes

Folder for the location.

Tried as you suggested but same thing after re-install : immediately closes. I deleted the full Mixvibes folder from Appdata/Roaming.

Not sure what you did.
The mixvibes.settings file is a user file meaning it isn't deleted on uninstall.
If you removed the folder then you removed to much.

I would suggest to do another uninstall.
Delete the settings file manually afterwards.

Install version 3.3.10.
Start the 32bit version on first run...

And let us know the result..

I mean that I did an uninstall via CCleaner, then afterwards I indeed deleted the settings file manually, and removed the whole folder just for good measure. Then I try a new reinstall. I have done that with versions 3.0.0, 3.1.0, 3.3.10 32 and 64 bit. Same thing everytime, very bizarre. I will try again later. How do i post the crash log, or send it to which email adress?
Thank you,
Sigurd

Seems Ok.
Given the situation it is important to rule out any issue that may cause hickups.
So only install and use 3.3.10 in 32bit mode (note: the 64bit is part of the same install, just don't use it for starters), without any audio or MIDI device connected.

If (when...) it works, add your devices (and restart Cross).

If this works you can give the 64bit a try. You do however need soundcards that have 64bit drivers. A workaround may be to install Asio4all as virtual soundcard. Set this up in the 32bit version and then use 64bit version.

OK, I will delete the Soundcard driver (though I am using the U-Mix44 and driver version 1.0.4) and install Asio4all.
Actually the soudncard wasn't even connected during my reinstalls, only the driver already installed.
A working 32bit version of Cross would be fine, I don't really need the 64bit.

This sc is 32bit. So using asio4all will be required for 64bit version, while also able to run in 32bit with low latency.

The current version has hardly any advantage for audio in 64bit. Merely video allows faster processing and use of more than 3.5gb of mem.
