Got a few questions about controller, MIDI mapping and demo

Postby haga46 on 07 Jul 2015, 12:32

Hello Crossers,

I'm Jürgen from Belgium and i recently bought a Reloop BeatMix 2, headphone and a laptopstand ( i had already a laptop and a amp with speakers).
I tried Serato DJ and DJ intro and VDJ8 and now i wanted to try out Cross DJ. Before i decide witch software i want to buy i wanted to test it with my controller.

I'm new @ this so i've got a few questions about MIDI mapping and Cross DJ demo version.
1. This is wat i've read about the Cross demo version: Cross demo is full featured but time limitation,, but can get a feel for newer versions. So if i understand that correctly i can map my MIDI controller with this version and give it a test spin ? ( allready downloaded it and played around  )
2. I didn't find any mappings for the Reloop BeatMix2 on this website or on the www, does anyone have a mapping for my controller ?
3. Is it hard to map it yourself as a noob ? Didn"t find much info about it on this site.
4. Do i need this info http://www.reloop.com/media/custom/uplo ... di_map.pdf (did find it on the Reloop BeatMix2 page) by seeing this my brain gets a little

So that's it for now :D If anyone has a question for me just shout or better type it here

Thanks in advance.

Cross Demo is the latest version.

No mapping available for your device AFAK.

Not sure if it is available in Demo, but guess so... Go to preferences / MIDI tab.
Check out if an older version of the device is present. Might make your life easier.

Copy or create a new one. Select a function at the right . Press the control you want to use... select trigger or hold.. done.
Next phase: faders. Here you have to add values as well... Little more challenging.
Jog wheels may be even harder. Also manipulating LEDs is more work (not within the MIDI editor).

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

Thanks for the fast reply, this is wat i did find on YT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqW-VB9cVb4 can you verify that it's still accurate ? (I'm @ work so can't verify it myself).
What about the faders and jog wheels, were do i find the values, the leds i can care less. I do want to test it, so if i could test it with my controller and the basic functions that would be nice for the time being.
Basics for me are:
- scrolling true my library
- faders
- jog wheels
- loops
- cue
- play/pause
- etc.
If this all would work for a about a week and i'm in to the software i'll buy it and i would worry about all the rest ;)

2mrrw i'll give it a try and let you know where i stand in the process

I could open it in the dutch forum bcuz your a dutchmen and i'm flemish 2, but i'll keep it here bcuz it will help others in the future

OK, so after messing around in the MIDI section i've got most (basic) things working ;)

The only thing that's being a bitch right now are the jog wheels, i can't get it set up

The Three scrolling dosn't work and the scrolling in the music library has a glitch if i turn it left it dos one step up so that's correct but when i turn it right it dos 2 steps down, so for one step down i've got to do it like this one right turn and one left turn

If someone could explain how i post the mapping, i'll post it if it would benefit ;)

Je kunt altijd vragen stellen in het NL(/Vlaams). Sinds enkele maanden is er echter maar 1 forum, alles in het EN.

Advantage is the 24/7 support option... if someone is present he most likely can answer.

On topic: if you can make your mapping available in this topic as well as the MIDI command table of the device (might be you linked it earlier).

If next you send a PM to FigDJ, our MIDI Monster, he likely can give you some feedback... Depending on his schedule as it is depending on his spare time....

Registered users (with a Cross license) can post attachments. If you want to have this option you'll have to bite the bullet... or find a workaround.

After an other go in the MIDI mapping section i used the settings of the Reloop Terminal Mix 4 for the jog wheels and the library and it works

So i've got the very basics going:
- Jog Wheels
- Pitch faders/sliders (somethimes i get confused how it's called  )
- Load/start 1 and 2
- GAIN , HIGH, MID and LOW both channels- Master, Phones, CUE/MIX
- Cue
- Cup
- Sync (bcuz i'm a compleet noob i'm not using this/ learning to manual beatmatching first)
- Cue for headphones
- Faders ch1 and ch2
- Crossfader
- Loops in and out 1Beat, 2B, 4B and 8B
- Hot Cues in and out 1, 2 , 3 and 4
- Library loading and scrolling

So i'm off now for the testwork and like i've said before if i'm in to it i'll buy it ;)

If someone would like the mapping, tell me how to post it or pm me with your emailadress ;)

Never mind the above i did found a work around, if it all works out you can access it here https://onedrive.live.com/?id=AB7FF9540 ... F3&group=0
EDIT: 13/07/2015 Replaced the mapping with an update (FX added) ;)

  (don't expect 2 much after all i'm a noob in djing and mapping  )

OK, so like i've said before ... first testing ... if i like it i will buy it.

So testing with my controller --> check
I like it --> check
Now i wanted too buy it

But first some ??

When i wanted too buy Cross DJ i came on the buying page and you've got some extra's that you can add if you wish.
So after seeing some posts on the forum relevant too losing/missing key's and clean OS managment etc.
Do i need the option of a backup - cd/dvd ?
Do i need the 24mnths dwnld protection (it can't be related for updates bcuz it says so in the description it aint for updates) ?

So i'm a little confused by seeing this options, i would've think that i download the Cross DJ software with the Cross DJ.ex (or somthing like it) and store this on my PC and register the key that i get on the forum and i'm settled.
By seeing the options i now would guess it is a 1 time download link that i can't store on my PC or am i wrong about this because if so i would take the option for the backup - cd/dvd so that i don't have to whine about a missing key or anything like that ... be sure i will be whining about all other stuff (getting my controller fully mapped  ).

The only thing i did find on the FAQ is this:
Updates/Downloads

Once you have registered your licence key on the forum, you can download the software AND the updates.

You will find all the software and updates here.

I'm guessing by the litmitations of the forum i can't see all the details :(

Thanks in advace ... for clearing all this up.
