Problem with the files tab

Postby joacoehu on 16 Jan 2015, 03:17

Hello, I recently acquired crossdj and I’m having a few problems.
I have all my music library organized in folders. When I use the “Files” tab to look up for something I find the following difficulties:
1. I can’t see in any way the tracks covers, if they are loaded in deck a or b or if they were played or not.
2. In a session, when I open a folder for the first time it takes a few seconds scanning all the tracks and it gets really annoying especially when I’m searching for something particular and I have to open folder by folder.
I apologize for my English, I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance,
Joaquin.

Cross has always been like this. The bigger the folder the slower it is. It is annoying I agree

I think Cross is engineered for the use of "Collection" over anything else IMHO

I would recommend to add your music to the collection asap. IMHO it is going to save you a lot of time. Maintaining your music is easier, as you can get ride of the rigid structure of folders (basically has one option to sort) versus being able to find anything by the search function. this is 100 times faster when working in live situation.
Just enter a few characters in the searchbox and the selection is brought down to a few (most tracks are visible in a list of 1 to 20 tracks when entering 4 characters of the title and 4 of the artist)

And the good thing is that you don't have to remember where you located a track...
If you want to organize it, use the smartlist functions, so it is very dynamic.
Even if you prefer a folder structure, you can use this by sorting on the 'location' field. (right click on header of collection to make it visible). You can search in the field by marking it as searchable (click binoculairs in search box).

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

Thank you very much for your answers.
It’s a shame crossdj hasn´t been developed to work with folders like any other DJ soft.
I hope they take this in account on further upgrades. Working with playlists is not easy for me because of the way I have organized my music.
For the moment, i will use back my previous DJ soft
Thanks again for your help.

There wouldn't be a need to go to playlist, this is an option.

Don't think folder based working will come back as once you're used to working with the collection, which is not complicated, you will be very happy to not have to be bothered with folders when playing live.

Searching and filtering takes mostly less than 2 seconds even in collections of 100000 tracks. Way faster than any folder based system.
And no more the risk of taking the wrong path....

But different user different wishes...
