Cannot open Collection anymore

Postby tron on 21 Oct 2014, 14:58

Hi!

I've just upgraded to Cross 3.3.1 (on a PC running Win8) and tried to open the collection I was using before without any problems.
After loading the collection for the first time, everything at first worked fine. I deleted a few tracks (because I decided to remove some stuff I don't use anymore) and created a new playlist. The latter only went quite slow and I was already a little concerned. After switching to another window and back again to Cross, the Windows "program is not responding" dialog appeared.
I tried to wait for a response, but even after 15 minutes nothing happened.
I restarted my computer and since then I cannot open the collection anymore without the software freezing.

I'm using the 64bit version and also tried copying the collection to another file removing the "-journal" file. The journal has been recreated when opening the copy, but it's size is only 3kb. The other journal file has about 2mb, my collection contains about 45000 songs and is 85mb in size.

Does anybody have an idea what to do? Most tracks are well-sorted, cuepoints are set and almost all tracks are analysed. That would be a real pain in the a** to re-do my whole collection since the last backup I've made of the file was in 2012... :-(

Is there maybe an error log file so that I can see corrupted entries in the SQLite-DB that I could delete prior to loading the database again in Cross?

Can't tell what caused it, but the .journal can be pretty important for recovery.
Without trying to be exact the general way of working for sqlite databases is that changes are applied to the journal. Only once in a while (Cross on normal close) the changes are permanent in the database file.
To have a chance of someone being able to recover the 2 files need to be in sync.
Else you may have learned the hoorible hard way to make backups... and not just of collection but also of tracks... it takes only one problem to end up with nothing. Have had (to) many customers without any data (and cloudservices may be just as tricky... People syncing their 'new' laptop to the cloud....one way...
Just put some data to a eternal disk/cd/dvd at some interval..

meanwhile hope for you someone of the devteam may be able to help you.
