I'm new to Cross and Vjing in general but I'm not new to using digital equipment. With that said I have not been able to fully understand how to use some of the video features within this software. Specifically, Playing video with audio and then changing the video on the fly like in the demo youtube video on the web site. At :49 in that video it shows a person dropping a new video into the video player on the top window and the new video plays. I am unable to do that. When a video is playing I cannot just drop a video into that deck. It has no effect. The way I have been testing it seems very cumbersome. I use 4 decks and load video in say A and the audio I want to play in C. This seems cumbersome because 1. I don't know how to make them both play at the same time and 2. I can't change the video on the fly. I do not have a controller, I'm using a Macbook Pro with Cross DJ (not free). In the demo video I noticed the person isn't using 4 decks to do this so I believe I'm off. In that demo they have one track playing and they are simply dropping a video file in the top window and bam, new video is playing without having to click the start button or anything. I do not have the in app video upgrade. I thought that was only used to remove the watermark. I was going to upgrade to the full Cross but wasn't sure if that was the answer or if I need to just upgrade the in app video or if it was in the way I'm doing it. Any help will be appreciated. Augustus

can you post a link for the video as to not get it mixed up ,, to see what you are saying ,, also is Cross DJ the only software from mixvibes you are running ,, trying to clear up exactly what you are running ,also what version of the software are you trying this on also and not to confuse the issue ,, 4 deck with out any external control but mouse and gui will be cumbersome ,,,, more info and answers as you give us the whole picture ,, not familiar with Cross DJ video implemation ,, use Cross and some what familiar with some of the video functions ,,

Thanks for the quick responses. I will try them out and post the results. - I'm only using Cross DJ - Just using Macbook Pro with the gui and mouse - Not using other external controllers or output In the mean time the video I'm referring to is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIJmjZsV-N8

well that clears up some confusion ,, the vid is of Cross ,, and the DJ is using a four deck controller ,, looks like a Pioneer unit ,, fig or rojec might give more info as to which ,, heres the fork in the road ,, as to what you want to accomplish and how much monie you are willing to spend ,, you will need info to answers your ,to make a choice

So this functionality is linked to having a controller?

the controller follows a mapping that can make the action easier ,, play around with the software ,, also there are keyboard short cuts that give some aid in easier control ,, use the info that rojec and fig posted and see whats going on as to what you want ,, as you learn the abilities of the software then the choices of which way you want to go will be clearer

I did a test run on the suggestions from Fig FigDJ wrote:Yeah what Daniel said.
Plus in the meantime under the settings taps, you should set to load audio and video separatedly and turn off load security. Just to see if that what you are talking about.
Loading audio and video sparatedly allows you to
load an audio/video file to A In the middle of playing load a different video file to A (audio continue playing and video start playing on the flY) perhaps this is what you are trying to do.
It looks like Rojec beat me to the punch.
and Rojec RoJeC wrote:Video is in deck A and B. (In Cross full you also have 4 video samplers available per deck C/D).
Default is that the video track and audio track are one. In Preferences / Video you can set to use 'seperate a/v loading'.
Also the FX and Link option might be of interest.
Further on General tab the Security Mode determines if you can load while loading on an active deck....
Sep. A/V loading sets 3 dropping areas; noticable when going over with a track selected to drop: - Full deck / audio section / video section
When using this function you can also link a video ton audio track. By this next time you load the audio track the vid comes with it. You'll have to click the link next to the track title of the vid in the deck.
and that was the key. This allows the video to be loaded on the fly. Also by unlinking the fader control you're able to mix the video while the audio plays. I will also take Daniel's suggestion daniel clark wrote::cool: the controller follows a mapping that can make the action easier ,, play around with the software ,, also there are keyboard short cuts that give some aid in easier control ,, use the info that rojec and fig posted and see whats going on as to what you want ,, as you learn the abilities of the software then the choices of which way you want to go will be clearer
to play around with the controls in conjunction with the manual. My next decision is determining weather to upgrade the software to the full version (Cross) or just do the in app upgrade for the video watermark removal. My thought is to open the whole thing up (full upgrade) so I can get familiar with all the functionality while building my kit. I'm leaning on getting a Numark N4 because of price point and the ability to control 4 decks. It's my understanding that it should allow me to control A/B as video and C/D as audio if I'm using vidz. Thanks guys.
