Using Cross DJ with Native Instruments Z1 mixer

Postby dellsworth on 17 May 2014, 21:10

Can this be done? Is there a MIDI map that can be made available? Thanks! None of the faders or gains work just the Main volume.

MBP>USB>RCA OUTS>Mixer

Of course it works great with Traktor DJ but I want to use Cross on my Mac and Cross DJ. None of the faders function - the only thing that works great is the sound card via the Main volume. Have to use the faders in the software with a mouse - which works, but...... :-)

In preferences -midi the tab should flash green when using a control.
If it doesn't the MIDI signal doesn't get to Cross. If you can control traktor and this is by MIDI it should work with Cross. Try reboot and/or connect to an other usb port. Cross will only detect on startup of program.
Audio and MIDI work independent of one another. Omly share the usb cable.
Once you have signal selecting the right mapping may be required. If not copy a similar to fine tune with the build in MIDI editor.

But it will only work if it is a MIDI contrller and not a sound controller. Like Daniel posted.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

The Z1 does indeed talk with my Cross DJ software on my MBP. Strange. Yes, the green is flashing in MIDI when I'm doing something, say moving a physical fader of the Z1. Problem is it's changing a filter - not the volume as it should. Remapping needed? How? Should I copy the X1 MIDI map included in the program and modify? Why isn't there one provided for the Z1?

You will have to map it yourself. Can't tell which to use as a base. If you use something with a similar function you likely only have to link you control. By this the other settings might be right at once.
But every controller has it's own specifics.

MixVibes provides flexibility to map any MIDI. It is not possible to make and maintain all controllers. Unfortunately for you this is one. The good thing is that AFAIK your controller has limited functions and likely it easy to map the functions.
