usually crashes are related to specific issues in a track. if tracks crash more than once send them to the team so they can try to catch the problem e.g caused by the encoder. one or two tracks per source (e.g album) will do. it often happens for source related files. knowing this might help you to skip a group.
if you have a lot you can upload to a public share and provide access info. e.g by pm.

have a nice weekend.

Re: Multiple Crashes during Analyze

Hello,
I used to get crashes every 10 mins or so analyzing tracks in Vfx and just starting using Cross 3.0 for about a week now. Last night I analyzed about 7,000 mp3's without a hitch. I started about 8:00PM and I let it fly overnight (at midnight it was about halfway done). In the morning it was rock solid...no crashes, computer, controller & sound card still up.

I went by what the Cross manual said to do. You have to import your tunes into the Collections area first...just wondering if you did that? It seemed to work fine for me. See P.63 of the manual...

The other day I was playing some music tracks and videos (mp4's) off of my external 2TB hard drive and Cross analyzed them 'on the fly'. If you don't read them into the Collections area first, it will analyze on the fly. When I was using this method, I got a couple of crashes with my videos...so....
just trying to say it did make a world of difference reading/importing into Collections first. I still have to figure out why a couple of my videos crashed but that's another story.

Hope some of this helps unless you already know all of this and are importing properly. Like I said, I've only been using Cross 3.0 for a week now but it is a huge difference from Vfx.

If its not a Collections problem try to convert a few mp3's at a higher quality and see if that makes a diff. Good luck..

files that crash on analysis have a red ! in the analysis status field.
you are right it shouldn't crash. unfortunately there are many encoders and decoders around. each having its own errors. it mostly are older types that may not have been addressed.

though it seems Cross crashing this is not always the cause. without more specific error it is because Cross asked the process to run that Cross gets the blame by the OS.

so try a red marked file once more. if crashes again send to team and help all users.

converting to a higher sample rate might technically work but should not ne necessary. your audio quality definitely goes DOWN by conversion to higher rate. you should never do this. it takes away dynamics which are normally handled by the soundengine. only very sophisticated software knows how to handle dynamics and harmony for the samples that are createf inbwtween the old rate. standard software makes copies of the identical neighbouring samples causing the engine to follow and jump instead of liberty to harmonise.

would be great if it did not crash. you could compare this issue woth firefox only allowing verified plugins. prblem is that Cross cannot control the plugins (decoders).
