Hi DJ Sam,

It has been a pleasure reading the thread sofar. I agree with you that having an option to copy a playlist with tracks could be convenient every now and than.
I disagree that the ability to copy to the desktop would be handy. It might work for a few tracks, but not for many. If they do it then it would be very convenient that the same folder structure is remained. In that way it would also be possible to copy tracks back after using them somewhere else.
What I would really hate to happen is that by on purpose or accidental copying the hdd (or even ssd) gets to be the bottleneck in processing and your whole live performance gets messed up despite your experience. Cross does have some powerfull features like (video)sampling that need the power.

What you have not explained is why you need to copy tracks, so often that having something in a software tool is a timesaver.

In general using a laptop could solve your problem, or if you are using a portal media device, just using the classical 'subst' function helps you out. By this you can have your collection point at a 'substitute' disk which at OS level points to another disk+folders; by this you can carry your external device anywhere and have your collection at hand in seconds.
e.g. START | Run | {type:} subst k: G:\myuzic\defaultfolder {enter}.
You can use multiple substitute disks.

Also I would recomment that you do not just plugin any media while performing. (all) DJ software works best with AV off. As this alwasy takes perforamce and speed somewhat down. However when insrting new device (with or without NSA related functionnal software) your PC need time to install, update the device driver. This is a buggy process, whicalso tries to involve internet connections that natively interfere with performance.

Sometimes if simple things are not in place, people might have thought about it. It might even be that the decades of experience of the MV people (centuries if you add the individual experience) are based on pro club and live radio DJíng. BTW this does not include the experience of the Beta testers and RC testers.

Have fun at your next job (/ gig / shift)

I sometimes like to make a backup of the MP3s from certain playlists.

I use one of many free "playlist copier" utilities that are out there:

1. From Cross DJ, right click on the playlist, select "Export as..." and save as a M3U file.

2. Open the "playlist copier".

3. Point it at the M3U playlist file

4. Specify the an empty folder location.

5. Click on copy and the utility goes through the M3U playlist and copies each of the tracks to the specified location.

Steps 1-4 are really quick. Step 5 will depend on how many files you're copying and your hardware etc.

It could be useful to have this functionality built in, but personally I'd rather see:
1. Proper autoplay functionality (i.e. able to toggle it on without disturbing a current playing track and have it automagically cut out silence from the end of a track)
2. Proper 24 hour clock display in the format HH:MM:SS (or at least the option to have that)
3. Option to display time elapsed and time remaining on the decks

copy function is nice to have. but potential problem in live performance. many playlist copiers available.

like the count up an down to be back. The autoplay smoother would be nice to.

We are thinking about something similar, fingers crossed it will happen ;)

Completely agreed with the first point. The second would however require additional track analysis to automatically find the ending silences, but why not.

You are missing the seconds?

OK, you are not the only one ;)
