Recording - advice

Postby Jasty on 18 Nov 2013, 23:32

Hello,

I used to record with classic cable (red&white > jack 3,5), which was connected to my line in in notebook.

I just got my new Lenovo pad, but it doesnt have line in. Is there some way to record on this PC?

I got two turntables + Pioneer DJM400 hoked up via external mixer cue and I am running Windows 8, Cross 2.6 and got Audacity for sound capturing.
Will I solve this problem by buying some USB soundcard?

Thank you very much for advices

Hey,

if you need to record on this computer and you have no Line-IN you need an external soundcard to record. a cheap soundcard with one in and one out should be enough to run with audacitiy to record the mix directly from your mixer to the computer.

this card would be enough for audacity to record the master from your mixer. but please check if this card can run also with Line IN volumes because it is an microphone in on the page you put. Please check this first before you buy this card!

Hi,
i used to see some laptops without physical line input, just one input labeled "mic in". There was an option, in the soundcard driver setting, to set it to line in. I guess manufacturers used this trick to gain space on the sides of the laptop.
Maybe you should check this before buying an external soundcard.
Cheers

Most modern laptops Mic In doubles as a line in, check your audio settings.

Mic-in is mono if it`s a combined jack.
I dont know any quad-channel jacks, but if you know some please prove me wrong.

Hey guys,

I hooked everything up and since my Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 has only headphone input (and i couldnt get that working) so I hooked up second laptop with Audacity. Its connected directly to my mixer (Pioneer DJM400) in Master Out with Jack Cable (i tried three different). It is working, but there is always this beeping sound in the background - its the almost same sound which u got by playing timecode mechanicely , but its not playing in my speakers (only when i turn my monitor in E46DJ control panel, but it is off whole the time). This sound is there only when recording and its constant beep sound. It is not there when I am recording with no needless on record - please help me get that out - i tried to remove it with various effects but it is always there. It is similar sound as mechanic time code, but that one is sometimes cracking and it is not that constant.

I went thru all topics like this on internet and everybody had monitors on but i got them off:(

My set up is: Lenovo Ideapad Z510(W8), Reloop 6000Mk2, Pioneer DJM400 and other notebook is Toshiba (W7)

Thanks in advance

Happy new year
