Cross on Mac - Stopped unexpectedly error

Postby DJ Vintage on 24 Sep 2013, 19:22

Hi,

I am using Cross 2.5 on a 2011 MBP 15" with OS X 10.8.5. Since the update to 2.5 I am getting a "Cross has stopped unexpectedly"-error (the actual english text might be different, but I am on a Dutch version). I have added the errorlog to this message.

Looking forward to some help with this issue. Preferably not of the "re-install everything and do all your settings over" kind :-)

Greetinx,
C.

Your crash log says it crashed when quitting the app...

same thing happened to me with Cross 2.4 on a win8 machine (crash on exit). i changed compatibility mode to 'run as admin', 'compatibility with win7', and disabled useless startup items and that fixed the problem.
i'm not sure what the mac equivalent of that is, but i am very sure that the problem is not Cross itself, but some process running in the background.

I started getting this in Windows after I moved the location of my library to a Dropbox synced directory (I learnt the hard way that not backing up your collection is a bad idea!). Quite often since then Cross errors on quitting.

Yes. And your point is?

It's not supposed to crash. How do I know that is has correctly closed any open databases/indexes or saved any of the made changes if it does not shut down properly?

You do know that Mac is a totally different beast than a windows PC right. The ONLY reason people pay top premium bucks is because if anything Macs are supposed to be ultimately stable and crashes should not happen!

If I can get the same sh*t happening on a MBP that I can have happen to me on a windows brick that costs half as much (and I have a few of those too), then why on earth would I bother getting a Mac.

To add to that, there isn't any other "strange" process running, for the simple reason that the only thing I do with the Mac is music/DJ stuff.

In short, this is not supposed to happen and I would REALLY like someone from support to acknowledge the problem and suggest a solution or at least tell me it's been worked on/looked at.

I'm an avid advocate of Cross (DJ) on another platform, but I hope this doesn't cause me to give that up and revert back to Traktor (which I would hate to to, but which has ALWAYS been stable on my Mac).

Needless to say that if it can crash upon quitting, there is no reason it can't crash mid program.

I have a gig tomorrow and I have just checked if my Traktor is still running, ran the last tracks I bought (few months worth) through analyse and checked all file and controller settings. I am seriously contemplating NOT using it for tomorrow's gig. Which is a real downer I can tell you.

But you need total confidence that the tools you use professionally are 100% stable and WILL NOT fail you in the middle of a gig.

Hope to get some kind of reply soon.

1: There's always someone working on solutions.

2: Since the database is written/saved on every change you make you shouldnt have any trouble because of this "crash". You could try to confirm this by making some changes and then crash Cross on purpose, you should see the changes after opening Cross again.

3: This particular issue, I can tell you, has no affect on stability.
As for what I know this bug is probably ironed out in basically no-time.
I predict it's probably fixed for the next release.

4: I can totally understand your reaction, but also you need to see where this issue is and when it's happening. Don't be scared, It'll run fine. Still you can use an older version, if it makes you feel better.

5: Just my 2 Cents regarding Macs theese days: Not what they used to be. Software and hardware issues, Update rollbacks etc. not for me anymore. It's either Linux or a properly set-up Windows for me.
