MIDI Mapping a VCI400 w/ LED Feedback

Postby DJ GrimeTime on 05 Sep 2013, 16:34

Hello there brilliant and wise community members.

First off let me start by admitting I am VERY new to CrossDJ. I have been using TraktorPro for over two years, but I decided to experiment with SeratoDJ and CrossDJ upon renting a VCI400 from my local music store.

Largely due to the lack of Snap/Quantize features, SeratoDJ has not stolen my heart over my current Traktor setup. On the other side of the spectrum, I was blown away by CrossDJ's horizontal waveforms, track management, iTunes integration, and impressive beatgrid capabilities.

IF I can get a controller to properly manage my desired workflow in CrossDJ, I will be gleefully making the permanent switch. I took a good look at the MIDI mapping settings available within CrossDJ, and I ran into some problems quickly.

--Is it possible to map my controller in different "pages"? Using the available pads on the VCI400, I would have one of the half sized buttons initiate the locator controls (thereby giving me convenient access to all 8 at once). This would leave me with three other "pages" left to map - lots of creative possibilities!!!

--Is there anyone who can explain LED feedback to me in SIMPLE English? This has been a stumbling block for me in Traktor as well, so hopefully CrossDJ can make this more straightforward. In an ideal world, the smaller buttons on my VCI400 pads would indicate which of the four pages I am on. As another example, the pad should remain lit if there is a locator chosen, and stay unlit for the opposite.

I hope this very long rant gets the attention of a kind and helpful soul. I searched the forum before posting and wasn't able to find an answer to my questions.

Thanks in advance for the assistance, I really hope to be able to switch to CrossDJ permanently!

I do not have a VCI400 but it is natively supported in CrossDJ2.5
I'm also sure that the 4 pages send different notes per pad depending on what page you are in.
Each deck uses a MIDI channel of it own.

LED feedback can be edited in an XML editor or you can use the program CrossMap
