Mapping Traktor Kontrol Z2 with CrossDJ

Postby Giordy01 on 07 Aug 2013, 00:43

Hello to all! :)
Recently, I came to the conclusion that Traktor has become too heavy with the latest updates made and, therefore, I want to permanently switch to the use of CrossDJ for my sets!
Now, however, I have problems to create a fully functional map of my Traktor Kontrol Z2 for CrossDJ. Let me explain briefly: the Z2 is a kind of controller All-in-One disguised as a mixer so I have to set CrossDJ in Internal Mixer for it to work properly read. The problem is that the Z2 has some controls independent of the software as an auxiliary, the master volume and the entire section of pre-listening and I can not get around it ... does anybody know if it can be done? If the answer is yes, how can I do??
Another problem I have is how to correctly assign the functions of the effects: when I try to map the activation of the effect on specific key of the Z2 this is seen as a fader or knob making me impossible to assign the desired function ... am I wrong or something, you think it is one thing to make the desired Z2 100% unusable with other software?
At the moment I can not buy more hardware so I have to be able to map out what I already have ... all other functions I am able to give it, but these other just can not and are among the most important to the operation of the setup.
I am eternally grateful to anyone who can help me in this my business!
Thank you all! :)

I do not have the Z2 but had a look at it on NI site and in the Controller editor. by the looks of it, it could be used as an external mixer(meaning your control the EQ, Filter volume internally inside the Z2. If not I'm sure it has a 2 channel sound card where you would set channel 1-2 to master and channel 3-4 to headphones.
The FX part looks like it's a perfect match for Cross you could map on to FX on then FX to amount and D/W to depth then a Word censored (guess you find it I love walking on it)+ one of the 2 knobs could be for FX select.
By the look of the controller editor all audio routings are done inside the mixer.

P.S. I also came from traktor for the very reason that it felt like traktor was running the mix and not me any more.

Has there been any luck with this. I want to use Cross so bad, but it doesn't seem to have mappings for any of the newer gear. I was thinking of buying a new MIDI mixer, and run turntables, but there is no mappings for any of the newer MIDI mixers. The Z2 is my choice as well. HELP HELP

With NI gear becoming more and more Traktor focussed and the the other way around, Traktor is effectively moving towards a very closed ecosystem, imho.

This means that there is less and less demand and interest in mapping NI gear for non-NI software or vice versa.

I'll agree that Cross has lost some of it's edge when it comes to supporting many (and newer) controllers/mixers. This is most likely due to capacity of staff and access to the new hardware (if you have to buy every new mixer/controller just to make a mapping for it, it can become rather costly I would imagine).

By the same token, FigDJ has most of the specials covered and is usually able to help, especially if you own the controller/mixer already and are willing to invest some of your time to get it working properly too. It only seems fair that he -too - will only put effort into gear the expects more users might want to use. With NI gear, as said, lower on the priority list.

Just my two cents as usual.
