Key analysis turned off and still changing key info

Postby ezmicken on 24 Jul 2013, 20:32

I have already keyed my library with mixedinkey so in the preferences i turned key analysis off.

However as I'm trying to pick out tunes i see that some tunes are changing keys when I load them into a deck. The key has been wrong in every case :(

Is this a bug or am I missing something?

i had a very good experience with the accuracy. Anyway I am not support but just trying to help from what I observed.

If you have a track that has not previously been analyzed by Cross, when you load it in the deck it will analyze it in accordance to the preference that you set in the settings menu.

If you have already the key information in the track, even when those setting are set to analyze all, instead of loading the track, select it from your list and right click. You will see that as part of the menu you have the options to either analyze all or just BPM, just peak infor, just beatgrid, or just key.

You mentioned that key analysis is off, perhaps it will better for you from the menu. i am just guessing.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply!
This must be some kind of bug then... After it changed to the wrong key I tried all the options in the right click menu... It's writing right into the tag so even reloading the tag info won't work. Here's basically what I experienced:
I picked two tunes from my 4a collection and loaded them up.
They were perfectly in key so I added them to my playlist.
Then I noticed one had changed to 4b and the other had changed to 8a.

I'd also like to point out that after loading up Cross 2.4 again all the tracks which had their keys changed by 2.5 were in the wrong format (classic instead of harmonic). I switched back because it kept choosing sample deck C as the master instead of switching between A and B and this was really annoying.

I'll stick with 2.4 until this automatic key analyzing bug is fixed. I guess the problem is that I prefer mixedinkey's key detection over mixvibes', but prefer mixvibes' bpm detection over mixedinkey's and want to use both.

  i kinda think you are mixing up different issues ,,in preferences you have a option to save changes to tags ,, maybe by un checking this your tags will not get overwritten ,,check and see
the issue with the master following the deck playing ,noticed that also ,, has to be something in settings ,, not shure what though

The key accuracy issue is not at all straightforward and I believe Mixvibes is now operating with Keyfinder author so you're in good hands!

Hi guys,

to clarify all this stuff, the new analysis preference ha no effect on track loading. At load, Cross will analyse all the missing data that are mandatory (BPM, key, peak), whatever the pref.
If a key is in the tag, Cross won't analyse it again.

The new pref only changes the behavior of the Analyse button in the collection.

However, ezmicken, i haven't perfectly understood your issue (Cross doesn't re-analyze keys when a valid one already exist) but if you have a reproducible scenario that lead to it, please share ;)

I leave the tag writing on because I want it to re-write the bpm info into the tag.

If it's only analyzing when there is no key in the tag then it is definitely not finding the key that is already in my tags :( Before it changes there is definitely a value in the Key column in the browser.

After I loaded 2.4 and noticed that the keys had changed from harmonic to classic It was clear that it was getting most of the keys right and only failing on the ones who have multiple keys. Sorry for being so confusing!

sylMV: I have some sampled shoutouts on deck C that I use. When I'm picking out tunes I like to use the simple stereo configuration and do quick mixes with the sync button to make sure they work before I play them live. In version 2.5 the master deck keeps switching to deck C which throws the sync off completely because nothing at all is playing in that deck. This is a mild annoyance and I always thought the master deck should be the one who is currently playing.
