Cross 2.30 / Windows 8

Postby kugmo on 24 Jan 2013, 05:46

...so far, so good. with one minor issue.
on start-up, controls are good for all of 10 seconds, then everything FREEZES for one full minute. after that, everything seems to run just fine. mapping is an old one i've been using on Cross 2.20 (meaning, no changes have been made for 2.30)
very weird.
i'll go ahead and use 2.30 for tonight's gig. that's the only way to find out if any code changes have affected performance.
i have not tested this on windows 7, but the windows 8 box i've installed Cross on has been VERY stable running 2.20 in the past few months (the only crash being one caused by a drunk DJ snagging on the USB cable between the laptop and controller).
also looking forward to mapping my denon sc2900 decks with this version (yet again). i've always had problems with the jog and pitch fader, since their MIDI implementation is somewhat freaky, to say the least.

Audio stops too ?

Try without mapping to see if it is linked.

Using W8 since some weeks now, I don't have issue with it, it works like W7 for me (less performance inded).

(the only crash being one caused by a drunk DJ snagging on the USB cable between the laptop and controller).

We should fix drunk djs in an upcoming version...

Shouldn't be that hard as it doesn't have the motorized platter.

No. Audio continues without a problem, but the controls freeze for one minute after loading Cross. After that, everything's okay. I took a chance last night and played live with 2.30. Absolutely no problems after that first minute.

I tried reloading without the reloop TM4 mapping. same thing. cold-booted the laptop. same thing. no new drivers were installed between 2.2 and 2.3 updates, but i can't say the same for the automatic Windoze update feature. i'm more led to believe that the freezing is NOT a mixvibes issue, but rather an OS issue. a minor and temporary inconvenience, more than anything.

Win8 seems okay. I just noticed i've been hitting the windows key more and more. and regarding drunk DJs, i have the perfect solution, it's called "in mid-mix, unplug their headsets from the mixer and watch them go nuts"

and regarding the 2900's, man oh man, MIDI signals sent by the jogs are the same, with vinyl mode on or off. mapping the vinyl button as a conditional is the other option i'm toying with.

overall, one happy mixvibes Cross user here. traktor's gathering dust, hahaha

There is a now a new option into the MIDI mapping (since 2.3) for this case : 'no touch = bend'.
So now when using the ring you're not scratching even if scratch is activate and ring & platter are sending the same messages. ;)

oops, my bad. i opened 2.20 by mistake :D

did a few tests before a deciding on a new remap of the sc2900. jog mapping is now much more well-behaved

checked the mapping list, and it looks like you guys added quite a few more items on the list. i am impressed!

by the way, where can i upload mappings for review? i've already upgraded my reloop tm4 map for 2.3 (i've been using this map for the past 5 weeks in my gigs, so i know it works well), and the denon sc2900 should be good to go in a bit.

Simply add it (rename extension or zip the file) to one of your post then Djegun will add it to the users mappings section.
