Upgrade to Cross v 2.0 - lost collection information

Postby kevdasrobot on 14 Dec 2012, 23:36

:cry:

I'm using an Apple mac bok pro and U-Mix Control Pro, I've been using Cross DJ v1.7 for months without any problems.
BUT
I decided to upgrade to Cross DJ v2.0 to check it out, new features , sampler etc. (I know there are newer versions)

This worked fine, all my collection / playlist and history info loaded perfectly, but I had a few MIDI mapping problems, so for a gig I decided to load trusty 1.7, as thats what I know best. :biggrin:

When I did this, the old software (1.7) before loading said I had to save my collection, so I said OK, but when it finished loading there was no collection/ history / playlist info at all . I then tried loading v 2.0 and its exactly the same, no collection / playlists / history..

waaaaaaah I want to cry

I do have 3 files on my laptop that are mixvibes collection files, but none have any info in them :cry: :cry: :cry:

thanks Daniel,

I'm confused, I understand that going back has 'broken' my collection for Cross DJ v 1.7, and that creating a back up is the way to go in the future.
BUT I don't understand why v2.0 cant retrieve any collection info, I have nothing, surely you can recover this data somehow????

thanks Kevin (gutted)

If I have to guess, what happened was when you loaded it back into 1.7 you wiped the information in the files.

In other words, going from 1.7 to 2.0 was ok but when you went back to 1.7 it killed the files so the data is gone no matter what version you load it in.

If the files are empty and there aren't any backups you're out of luck.

Do you have a backup of the files in a Time Machine or other backup you might be able to restore?

I made that mistake, going back a version. Gutted

Had to reanalyze my Collection(s) again all 35,000 tracks. Took 2 days to do.

Ive just managed to rescue the collection information, not sure how, kept searching for other files called collection, 1 thankfully worked in v2. I wont make that mistake again

Ok Daniel, I'll make a simplier process :

Before using a new version, simply duplicate the current one, or don't forget to change the active collection with an empty one to avoid corruption.

Here what is happening

* 1.7 using 'collection'
* save collection as 'test'
* open 2.x it will automatically open 'collection' (the last one used).

Now 'collection' can not be used at all back into 1.7, but 'test' can still.
So now :
* 'collection' = 2.x
* test = 1.7

But, when you'll go back into 1.7 :
* 'collection' = broken
* test = 1.7

And if you open again 2.x :
* 'collection' = broken
* 'test' = 2.x (now upgraded because last one used by Cross)

Back to 1.7 :
* 'collection' = broken
* 'test' = broken
