BPM Count almost always wrong

Postby AMX on 30 Oct 2012, 15:07

Hello, I am new here! I just got my Cross DJ and upgraded to the newest version and the BPM count simply does not work. I use Cross DJ for MAC and it often halves the BPM Count i.e. it shows me for TNGHT's Higher Ground that it has 80 BPM—now this track definitely has more than 80 BPM. Many rock songs that should be around 145-150 show up as 75) About half of the songs show what I'd deem the wrong (half) of the BPM—only for some basic house / dance songs does it seem to show the correct BPM. This makes the BPN count a huge issue as the tracks become unmixable on the software.

PS.: The search function does not seem to work properly, so I hope that this topic had not been discussed at some point further back, but as far as I could see it was the first one.

u can set the range of the bpm that crossdj shows in preferences / general / bpm detection range. in yours right now is set to a low range thats why it shows all bpm halved: for example the mentioned tune higher ground is 160 » u got 80, and so on.

whats exactly wrong with searching? noone can help u if u just say "its not working" :cool:

ps. another method for the problem above is practicing and trying to match the tempo by ear, not by watching the bpm counter ;)

Thanks a lot for your help. It was just that when I searched the forum nothing came up.

Now that I've found the preferences setting, I wonder if you have to keep to the ranges for Beat Count (Low 50-100 Normal 75-150 High 100-200) Because the tracks I want to play are all somewhere between 85-160, so it's a bit annoying if I have to constantly re-edit the software, to show me the accurate beat count. (Is there a custom setting?) Similarly, I've noticed that the tracks that were once counted re-appear with the same BPM count. (i.e. Higher Ground still shows up as 80pm) is there a way of making it re-count the tracks?

i havent bothered with that so personally i just left it at the low rate and do the maths in my head when necessary :biggrin: (i use Cross and not crossdj, with timecode, therefore i dont use any sync btns, making the exact software bpm matching unnecessary)

and yes, re-analyzing the tunes will refresh the bpm in their tag as well

Simply use smartlists.

I have one for DnB -> always analyzed 100-200
one for Rock/Funk/Soul/Electro etc -> 75-150
and one for oldskool HipHop and lounge Stuff -> 50-100

I also have tracks that swap from 70 to 140. As long as you don't hit sync, and can do a quick (times 2) or (divide by 2) in your head and match the songs that way, they will stay in sync for a long time. Not un-mixable, just not sync-able.
