Setting up external sound card

Postby nitro_D on 22 Aug 2012, 10:19

Hi,
Complete noob here. I have a U-Mix Control 2 (non-pro). I also have a tapco link.usb external sound card I borrowed off a friend. I am running a windows computer.
How do I set it up so I can cue etc with headphones and split the master.
Thanks

And if it doesnt look like that sound card will work what are some cost effective options. Im purely mixing for fun and something to muck around on at home.

It seems to have 2 sources : 1 usb and 1 physical input that can be mixed internally.
But I'm pretty sure it only have 1 output (monitor at the rear) and that the headphones is just a duplicate with volume.

Looks like a muscian soundcard to play your instrument along the soundtrack from the computer into speakers and/or headphones.

Hi.
You could use the tapco SC, but only in 'dual mono' mode, as it only has 1 stereo out (one channel for cue<headphones>, and one channel for front of house sound).
You need a sound card that has 2 stereo outputs .
There are a quite a few cheap alternatives, that you could find on ebay if you dont want to spend much. User "Kev Maverick" pointed this one out to me a little while ago : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Channels-Sound-Card-USB-2-0-External-S-PDIF-Optical-Audio-Adapter-For-PC-/261064537594?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_SoundCards&hash=item3cc8a8b5fa#ht_2201wt_1135
He says it does the trick for bang-for-your-buck home DJ'in ;)
Cheers

Hey Nitro.
You might need to use ASIO4ALL sound card asio drivers too.
Get them from here: http://www.asio4all.com/ Version 2.10 is the last stable version as far as i know ;)
