Newbie Setup/Growing Pains

Postby DJRicoche on 22 Aug 2012, 02:06

Hello -

Mixvibes newbie here -

So I just received my Vfx Control and software. Last week I set everything up and got started:

FIRST, I let Vfx Analyize my media files. Or attempt to anyway;

I don't have a HUGE mediabase - approx 20,000 mp3's and approx 1000 videos, and Vfx would just crash anytime I set it to analyize anything more that 65 to 70 items. it took me nearly 2 days to get everything scanned so it could be used, and I only did the essential things I knew I would need for my gig.

Did I miss something, or is this just a bug in the software?

SECOND, the software crashed 3 times on me while performing over the weekend, luckily at intervals where it was not noticable to the crowd...

Are there suggestions or tips & tricks as to how to set up your machine for maximum performance? I noticed alot of my problems stemmed from turning Visualizations on and off while video was faded to black.

Are there special codecs I should install? Perhaps I have some I should remove? Should I do a clean install of Windows 7 and install Vfx Under the (Hidden) Administrator account in Win 7 instead of a user account with administrative privleges?

THIRD I also had the controler freeze up on me TWICE requiring either restarting the software or rebooting the computer entirely. Not good at a gig.

I hope stability issues can be addressed, and updates will continue to be released quickly. This is not an inexpensive product. Also, On a side note, the lack of support for the product concerns me given it's price. You need a team handling things in the US in order to provide faster responses to inquiries to problems on this side of the world. You also manufacture a product that is used by folks who work evenings and weekends - when support is likely to be needed MOST - make it available. PM's don't even get answered quickly. Also, files that are supposed to be available to users (i.e. "VISUAL VIBES") are inaccessable because they are hosted on a file sharing site which has been confiscated by the FBI, pending investigation. Please Make the files available elsewhere.

  understand all your comments and concerns ,,first if you could give your system spec and any info as to your set up to be able to see if your configuration has any known issues and try to replicate your issues to assist you in a solution   in essence we need to know what you are working with to be able to help

OK, so here are my system specs. They are WELL beyond what is required for Vfx to function properly.

ASUS G74Sx Laptop
Intel® Core™ i7 2.63 GHz
8GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560M with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM
Win 7 Home Premium 64bit
USB 3.0 Hitachi Tourio Pro External Drive
USB Mouse
Vfx Software
Vfx Control

I'm not running any external controllers other than the Vfx Control. It doesn't matter whether I am outputting my secondary video to VGA or HDMI, all issues still remain.

My problems don't appear to be hardware related, more so bugs with the Vfx software itself.

Biggest Problems seem to be common complaints throughout the forums:

-Mediabase scanning causes crashes
-Using Visualizations causes crashes
-Overall Stability
-Slow response when searching Mediabase
-Poor beatmatching/sync

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. I'll try & upload a config report also.

Some files are causing the issue : spotting them to know why and have the software corrected is the solution.

Try to know if some specifics file and/or file extensions are doing this.

Visualisations will eat up a lot of cpu power, you can check this into the task manager.

THIRD I also had the controler freeze up on me TWICE requiring either restarting the software or rebooting the computer entirely. Not good at a gig.

Controler freezing ? Never see that one, so you need to unplug/replug only the controler (electrical) ? This would break the audio chain also.

Not really a technical issue but a commercial/sale one that I'm sure they're aware.
How many PM did you sent me ?

The scanning/analyizing issue is not being caused by a bad file, becuase, upon restart, it would scan and anaylize the file where it crashed, with no issues, continue on for approxamately another 70 songs, then crash again in a different spot.

Just a suggestion, but Perhaps in future releases, is there a way to "pre-scan" for errors and in the % scanned area, just have it say "ERROR" or "UNSUPPORTED FILE"

True, Visualizations do eat up alot of CPU - however, I am running an Intel i7 quad core, with an NVIDIA 560M Video card with 2 gigs of DEDICATED Video Ram - I don't think processing power is an issue.

Yes, the Vfx controller froze (or stopped responding) and couldn't be revived without a restart. Unplugging the USB cased the Vfx software to crash. I didn't try unplugging wall power though. next time it occurs, I'll try that - provided i'm not playing live & don't need my audio stream

And Yes, I only sent ONE PM, because after I sent it, I read that we shouldn't PM you. I wasn't referring only to the "support" section, but just to the general lack of response. Hence my suggestion for a US support team during the hours the FR team isn't available.

Ok.

Of course but for doing this we need to have a batch of each faulty file that exist to caracterize the errors into the application.

Didn't say that, only said that the peak generated when switched on will slow down other things. It's a known issue.

Unplugging the usb, will :
- display : Unplugged : Vfx Control (or the name of the usb soundcard used). Click to configure
- stop all players

- what is your firmware version from the Vfx Control ?
- does it happen with an other soundcard ?

I don't think you understand what i mean with regards to visualizations. Turning them on and off (if nothing is playing) or there is a flash file playing with no audio Vfx completely crashes.

The scanning issue is something I think could be implemented - if the scanning process "sees" something that it deems an issue (i.e bad encoding, incomplete file, unsupported extension, etc.) , it could just simply display "error" where it shows the scan percentage.

I understand UNPLUGGING the Vfx Control USB will halt the software, however the controller has stopped communicating with the software a couple times. I have the latest drivers installed.

On a side note, Is there a crash report file I can send in? If not you might consider implementing something that will write a crash file we can send in, to help you resolve these problems more quickly. I'd Be glad to do this if it was an option.

Corrupt field !

dear team :
if i analyze 50000 songs and could not see if something is corrupt
if mediabase crashes but analyzing passed 100%
how to spot broken file ?
what shuould i do next ?
do i need another software to see if there is CORRUPT mp3 or video?
i use 3 different programs to analyze songs and videos
maybe is not to hard to put that into Vfx
here is SERATO example .
after 5 hours i have analyzed my songs and CORRUPT file is marked in the left field. easy !

If we (at MixVibes) never have a specific kind of broken file : how could we handle the case into the analyze process ?

Serato is doing so, because they have manage to got broken files from everyones so now they are handling a lot of case still not of them but most of them.

If a file is giving an issue, file will be looked into and then the crashing will be cured, so when the same (or associated) case will happen we could handle it.
