Postby olivehouse on 16 Mar 2010, 15:37

Hi

I hear people say u can use real vinyl in a mix with Cross Pack but when i put a real vinyl on nothing plays.

Can anyone simply explain how you can without changing all the wires over if there is a way.

I have something about "Bypass" is this in CrossPack?

Thanks and sorry if this is a repost, in searched but didnt find anything

I have now worked it out by i have another question.

First ill just explain for people who else dont know how to use real vinyl as well. I Have Cross Pack 1.3.2 and in the middle of the program just below the waveform strip along the top, it has the sound meters and it says Player, one in red writing one in Yellow. All you have to do is click where it says player, on whatever side you want to use and that will switch to 'Line In' and hopefully your real vinyl track should just play.

However when doing this if i play the say song,(one real vinyl, one Timecoded) after about 20 seconds its slightly out of sync, im guessing this is because one turntable is at 33rpm and one at 45? The track should be played at 45rpm but in Cross i have to have it playinmg at 33 otherwise its stupidly fast. How do make my track play properly when put into 44rpm? And does this sound like the reason the tracks are going out of sync?

Also when i play the tracks together there is a strange sound, it sounds like an effect in the background?

thanks

If you are playing the same song on deck A via real vinyl and on deck via MP3 it is totally usual that they are not synced after some time. Think of variations because of the turntable. If both are set to zero one is maybe playing at 0.01% and the other one at -0.01%. They are often not in sync. So you have to pitch a bit to protect against this problem.

This is what is called flanger (? not sure, but it is an effect) effect. The tracks are not totally in sync so one of them is playing a bit later and frequencies add each other. So the "strange sound" can be explained - I guess.

if i play the 2 tracks via timecoded vinyl the tracks are fine tho this is what i dont understand. I will try the 33rpm and 45rpm thing to see what results i get.

Think of the way the music is released/manufactured:

- A record is analog and pressed, so every single record is unique!!

- Digital data compressed as mp3 is always the same, i.e. xyz.mp3 always consists of 12.345.678 Bytes, every copy of it!

So I guess that is the reason for your sync problem.

Steve
