Latency and a fix I found

Postby World Wide Panik on 15 Jan 2010, 00:03

Well I never knew the exact effects of it until today. I was ASIO mode on my Hercules MK2 with a setting of 23 ms because I didn't know any better (please forgive me, LOL). I did some reading and used this nifty program (http://www.thesycon.de/eng/latency_check.shtml) and WAALAA the music sounds like 10 million times better and I can actually beat match a ton better and no more cranking on the jog wheel and getting nowhere fast. Also the crackling when I'm recording seems to go away quite a bit besides when I start a new track but I think that's an available resources issue but I may be wrong.

My setting is 4ms now  LOL.

It's definitely a learning curve I'm enjoying.

Yes, the DPC Latency checker is a very useful tool. I've used it a few times now.

Last time I used it was when I installed Windows 7 on my gig laptop, just to see if I had any problems. All I needed to do was to turn my Wifi off.

Now I can run Cross with either my Hercules Trim 4-6 or my old Maya 44 USB on 2.8m/s Superb :)

That's what I use my Maya44 USB for.

If you are going to get one be quick as I read somewhere that ESI have dis-continued the card (I may be wrong though). I bet you can find one on Flee bay ;)

ok but that program didn't fix anything itself, did it?

I had a hard time configuring my setup at the beginning to reach good latency and although I used DPC Latency too, it never really helped me. It just shows latency peaks you may have but it doesn't tell you what to do. or did I miss something?

It works in micro seconds or x.xxx1 and I know for my MK2 console it works in sec x.1. My peak was around 4,000 micro seconds so I set it at 4 seconds for example. You can also set it higher to play it safe.

When I mix 2 songs I set it at 4 sec and when I do a set I set it at 6 because for some reason after an hour or so it's not as responsive for a while then it fixes itself.

Don't know if this is any help but this is what I found from tinkering with it and doing a little research.
