Collections in Cross

Postby djmichaelm on 17 Jan 2010, 21:06

Testing out my new Cross Pack. Mixed feeling so far. Have been trying to dial in the correct settings. I am on Vista, and going to use that ASIO4all. I just want low latency. Before I purchased, from the reading, I was under the impression that the U46MKII had a very low latency.

But I issue I am having:

How can create or point collections to my main music folder or drive? I really don't want to use iTunes. I don't like it. If that is the only option, I'm going to be kinda mad. I know i can use "explorer" to get to a file, but it doesn't have the detailed info like collections, an more importantly, the search feature.

Any help would be great.

Heya...
iTunes integration is sorta newish to the way you bring tunes into Cross/MV products anyways. You can just create a new 'collection', then drag a folder or files into your 'collection' window. That easy. You can have as many collections as you wish. :)
Dont have to use the internal 'explorer' function - i never do  . Just not user friendly enough to find extra info on tracks that you can see just using 'win explorer'. ;)
Just make sure after adding tunes that you right click and analyze 'bpm and peak' for all your newly imported tracks before playing them. :)
hope that helps- another note- the U46 does have pretty low latency, and if you have a decent spec PC(which it sounds like you do), it should run at least under .10 mS; i mean im on an ancient 1.6 celeron (5 years old), with a FireWire fa66 soundcard, and i get .06 MS latencey. You might have too many 'background' programs running. I run MV on a partition that has pretty much not much else on it BUT Cross, and DVS7 on it.
Cheers and good luck

Cheers

hi djmichaelm :)

First, you need to create a new collection if you haven't done do already.
Image

Give it a name, such as where you are using this collection, or the type of tracks it is, etc.
Image

You should now have a new, empty collection. To import files into this collection, from a directory, do the following:
Image

Select the directory you want to import tracks from..
Image

And hey presto! Cross scans the directory and imports all media and playlists into the collection. You can now start mixing :)

A few tips when creating Collections:

    - Some people mix loads of different genres of music. If it helps, or you DJ on location where only certain types are played, create collections for each location, or the genre. Note you can change collections easily in the mix by Simply pressing Ctrl+O (or ⌘O on OSX) to open up the Collection dialogue.

    - Collections don't watch folders. If you add new tracks to those folders, you have to add them yourself to your Collection. You can of course, rescan the whole folder, and it will pick up on the new files. This may take time however, if you have a large number of tracks.

    - Make sure you frequently save your collection (Ctrl+S or ⌘S) if you are rating tracks or arranging them, as a crash or a closure of the program may lose important changes. It doesn't autosave, which is a GOOD thing in case you erase all your tracks (which can happen, believe me :))

Hope this helps.

COULDNT AGREE MORE-SAVE As Often As Possible. Crashing can be very frequent when adding new collections, with variance in MP3 variables.
P.S. Stealthii - Djmichaelm is running Vista ;)
