I have a question regarding recording w/ Soundforge 9. I’ve been able to record my mixes just fine using SF9 for a little over 6 months now but now my recordings sound all distorted when I play them… I have not changed my set-up and I’ve made sure my drive on the laptop I use has more than enough memory available and I’ve been running my laptop w/ “bare bones” visualization to optimize processing speed. I have the booth of my mixer hooked up to my “mic” jack of my laptop (line-in) when I record. I am wondering if my mixer is just worn out since I’ve used multiple cables to check if that was the problem (although my mixer works fine for everything else) or if there is something wrong with my softward set-up.
I would appreciate any help with this problem and I’ve read the tutorials many times over already – which is why I’m thinking it may be a hardware problem. I’ve included the config report below if this will help answer my question.
Thanks,
D

Laptop mic/line inputs are notorious for having problems. I would suggest picking up a cheap usb soundcard

Hey mate,, nah you cant plug the output of your mixer into the mix output of the U46 are you trying to record and play on the same laptop?

correct - im mixing/recording on the same laptop... the only way i was able to do this originally was plugging the booth/zone into the mic/line of my laptop ...
right now I have the turntables hooked up into inputs 1-4 on the soundcard, and outputs 1-4 of the sound card are hooked up into lines 2 & 3 on my mixer (I plug the phono/aux 1 of my mixer into the headphone jack of my laptop to play iTunes out of my amp). The master of the mixer is hooked into the auxillary of the amplifier/receiver and like I said previously the booth/zone of my mixer is hooked into the mic/line of my laptop.
When I open sound forge I’ve tried to change the “source channels” around to see if that is the problem but to no avail. The source that was originally working for me was the “sigma tel –left” and “sigma tel –right” channels but now this setting records my mixes all distorted and with varying speeds.

if the input is broken then your kinda stuck,, it would be worth uninstalling the drivers for the onboard audio from device manager and rebooting and checking for updates from your laptop provider re install the drivers and see how it goes.

Some laptops have a setting for their inputs jack : mic/line. Check if you didn't switch to mic.
If not, the worst case is that the line level fried the mic input

thanks everyone...
what i eventually had to do was go to my sound forge preferences and reset all settings to "default"... instead of the software recognizing the "sigma tec" or "u46 MK II" it is now recognizing the "sound mapper" on my laptop... it's working for now but at least i know if it breaks down again i'll just have to set all my settings on sound forge to default...
im glad it wasn't a fried input...
