[EN] Cross RC 1.3.0 threshold bug

Postby Stealthii on 10 Dec 2009, 01:20

There seems to be a problem with the new gain settings regarding interface inputs. This was only tested using a turntable as an input. I no longer seem to be able to move the vinyl really slowly (for creating accurate cue points) no matter how I change the settings (either the pre-gain on the inputs themselves, or the calibrated gain).

Setting the threshold to the minimum doesn't help under normal circumstances, and increasing the gain a lot just causes the usual anomalies.

Are you on phono or line switch ?
You should now use only line on your soundcard (no riaa)

Yep, the u-mix44 only has line inputs. I shall test 1.2.5 again, I'm not sure if it's applicable only to 1.3 (perhaps I'm just moving them too slowly) but it seems very noticeable as of the RC. I'll write back if I have any more info.

I'll try with a U-Mix44, I was on U46mk2 and didn't notice that.
But below a certain point you won't have enough signal and too much noise for a correct position analyze.

EDIT : ok so I tested with Tech 1210mk2 with Ortfon S and the U-Mix.
The calibration found :

Umix-44
Input : 30dB
Gain : 6dB
Threshold : -40

U46mk2 in phono
Input : 0dB
Gain : 5dB
Threshold : -40

U46mk2 in line
Input : 40dB
Gain : 2dB
Threshold : -40

The only thing you should touch is the threshold for sensibility if you want it to be more reactive. But if you do so, rumble, ground and noises will be more important in the caption of the signal.
