Can't mute control CD in Windows 7

Postby Meph on 31 Oct 2009, 06:00

I'm using Mixvibes DVS 7.218 on Windows 7 64-bit with a U46 MK2 and ASIO4ALL. I've tried everything, but I can't fully mute the control CD, which is bleeding through on each channel. I tried looking it up and the only thing I found was to go to playback devices, go to the properties for the U46 Mk2, go to the levels tab and then turn the volume down for the input monitor all the way. It works to bring the volume of the control CD down, but it doesn't get rid of the ringing completely. I am in the middle of a show and I can't use the control CDs without the sound of the control CD bleeding through. Any help would be appreciated.

You should be able to mute them fully by clicking on the speaker icon underneath the volume meter.

I should have specified that when I do that, it mutes everything.

Also, I think I know what happened that caused this, because I've been using Mixvibes DVS on Windows 7 for a while now. When I was setting up for a show a few weeks ago, I tried to open up the U46 MK2 Control Panel (the one that comes with the manufacturer's driver) and as soon as I opened it, the control record started bleeding through. It changed something, even though I was not able to use the control panel to mute the inputs, or change any of the levels. I was able to fix it by switching the inputs from Phono to Line, then turning the volume down through playback devices like I described above. The reason why this worked is because the signal on a control record in line-in mode is a lot quieter than the signal on a control CD. This morning, I hooked my turntables up and found out that the sound is still bleeding through, but it's so quiet that it gets completely drowned out by whatever is playing.

I hardly ever use CD-Js, but I really want to resolve this issue. I didn't notice much of a difference between using the control records in line-in and phono mode, but I would prefer to use them in phono mode with a stronger signal. I haven't messed around with bypass mode yet, but I imagine that bypass mode won't even work without being able to use phono mode, unless I want to switch it on the box every time I change from control records to regular vinyl.

I don't know if anyone else is using Mixvibes DVS with Windows 7, but if anyone out there is, I would appreciate any insight. Otherwise, if Mixvibes wants to use me as a guinea pig for beta drivers or anything like that I'd be more than happy to help out.

I haven't moved to Windows 7 yet so I won't be of much help until sometime tomorrow when I get everything up and running. We have a couple experienced 7 users who'll be able to help you get everything sorted out.

Cheers!

Thanks, yeah I have another show tonight, but I got my turntables hooked up as I explained before. I tried using bypass mode too. It works... sorta. I have to switch from line to phone, but I also have to go back to playback devices and turn the volume up for it to work. Won't be using records tonight, just Mixvibes. Thanks for your help and I'm an IT professional so anything you need from me let me know.

Hey Meph

I run windows 7 32bit,, using u46mk2 soundcard with the drivers available from the downloads section (1.041) not sure on which driver you have stuck with im guessing you are not using asio4all any more.
Tried to replicate your problem and have been able too.
What i found in the u46 control pannel the mute button on the monitor channels was not selected and the volume was 1/3 of the way up, and must have been like that from the time of install as i never really open the control pannel
however i did not have an issue until i messed around with the volume on the monitor inputs then even with the level turnned down i still had a slight bleed of the timecode.
I then had to mute the monitor input on both 1 and 2 as per below image. Once muted no timecode signal was mixed to the output
u46mk2 control pannel.jpg

hopefully this helps,, if not let me know

Unfortunately, 64-bit ASIO drivers are not available, so I cannot use the U46 MK2 Control Panel, like you can in the 32-bit version of Windows. I am using ASIO4ALL.

ah well if your on 64bit windows then u46 is out of the question

with ASIO4all i have not done this on windows 7 yet,, have done on xp

have you followed the install process as per Gakto's tuturiol
http://forum.mixvibes.com/viewtopic.php?f=207&t=12058&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
might be worth uninstalling asio4all and going step by step Cross all the t's and dot all the i's

Ill give asio4all a try after work and see what i find

Thanks for your help, I went through this tutorial and it did not help. I've already done all of the steps in that tutorial before I posted this thread.

I think it has something to do with me attempting to open up the U46 MK2 control panel. Even though it doesn't work without the ASIO driver installed, it did something to my configuration that changed the way the monitors are setup, and I don't know how to go back and change it back. Maybe I just need to do a reinstall of Windows and make sure not to attempt to open the control panel again.

yeah that might have done it,, uninstall everything asios4all u46 driver if you havent already, turn the soundcard off search c:\ looking for any refernce to either asio 4all or the u46 drivers/control pannel ie u46*.* delete these files
reboot the PC
I would do this also but do so at your own risk and you might not find anything, oepn regedit just type it in the start search
preform a search on the registry looking for anything do do with u46 driver, delete the keys if present
reboot again if you touched the registry
re install the asio4all and follow the tuturiol again
dont install the u46 drivers at all and dont turn on the sound card until prompted hopefully that gets you over the line
