Organising tunes/ Id3 tags

Postby davideast31 on 10 Aug 2009, 23:58

Hi,

Ive been following advice on the forum for organising my music library. Ive scanned all the bpms using mixvibes (Producer) and I have saved using the "save Id3 tag" button. This then duplicated many of the tracks labelling them mp3.xxxxxx. If I understand correctly this is because the original file cannot be written to so the duplicate is a correct version. Then following a bit of research on the forum here I deleted all the original files and renamed every duplicate track deleting the xxxxxx. This took days as it involved renaming several Gbs of music. Having done this I assumed that the Id3 tags would be saved properly so that whenever I use an already existing media base or scan a folder with mixvibes the bpms would appear in their correct saved form. This has not happened! Im not sure if some of the tracks are ok or if its all the same tracks that were incorrect before but having rescanned a directory hardly any of the bpms came up correctly and I have a huge amount of xxxxxx files again. This is incredibly frustrating and time consuming so Im really hoping Ive just missed something important somewhere and there is a simple solution- please, please help!!!
One less frustrating issue- when I select all and scan bpms many of the tracks get an incorrect 120bpms, however when I scan that track individually I get the correct bpm. Any ideas??
Many thanks. Dave

Ok, Ive been trying the above process again on a couple of folders. Some of the tags have saved properly and will load when I scan that file but there are still many tracks that get a duplicate xxxxx file when scanned for bpm. Unlike the 1st time around though they are no longer mp3.xxxxxx just mp3 leaving no option for the "delete original, rename the duplicate" process. Ive run out of ideas and resources! I just want to have all the tags saved properly so that whenever I call up a tune or scroll through a folder all the info is there. There must be pleanty of people on here who have a well organised library? Please help! Cheers, Dave

Hello,

First of all which version are you using? Is it the latest one?

Ive still not found a solution to the above. I made some headway doing the very long winded scan with mv, save tags, read with rapid evo and then write tags. Only then do I get a tag that mv will read. The problem stopping me now is that the duplicate files are .mp3 rather than .mp3xxxxxx so there is no way to edit the name to replace the originals. I hope that makes sense!
It seems crazy that what should be a simple process has created so many time consuming problems. Is it just me?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave

Not sure if you've tried, but if you delete the XXXXX off of the end of the file, it'll turn into a readable .mp3 with your tag saved.

Hi. Thats what I was doing before but now the duplicate files just say .mp3 in the name and not .mp3xxxxxx so there is nothing to delete. Under file type they are listed as xxxxxx
