HELP ! Not acceptable sound quality on U46MKII with Cross

Postby charliespike on 12 Sep 2009, 17:38

Hi. I installed just 2 days ago new Mixvibes Cross Pack with U46MKII USB soundcard (FW 2.3.3 as I good remember). And I have planty of problems to set itup correectly.

My configuration:

- Mixer Pioneer DJ-600
- CD Player Denon DN-S1000 attached directly to mixer
- two decks - Reloop RP-5000 M3Ds - attached via U46MKII (Desk A input 1 & 2, deck B - input 3 & 4; Deck A - output 1 & 2, and analogically - Deck B output 3 & 4, both set as PHONO in U46MKII). Output ports from U46 are connected to phono inputs in my mixer (deck A - port 2 and deck B - port 3, all switched and connected to PHONO).
- U46MKII is also attached to my notebook (on AC not battery): Acer TravelMate 6464WLMi with 2GB RAM, Intel C2D T5600 processor (1.83GHz, 2MB cache, 667 FSB), 120GB SATA, ATI Mobility Radeo X1300 with up to 512MB RAM shared memory. Built-in mainobard is Realtek HD souncard. OS is Windows XP SP3.

NOW:

1) All, software, drivers (v 1.041) - were installed correctly from the scratch, everything recognized, no problems in OS. But... when I play any music from Cross, even not from decks with time code vinyls, but directly from Cross' biult-in player - my sound quality is horrible in my mixer. It is overdriven, overloaded, don;t now how to describe it. Just it is too high level of sound in my opinion. I saw your information about installing Asio 4 All drivers and there was mentioned about lowering sound level, but... it was Vista picutture, not at all corresponding to XP. So, what in XP is responsible for that too high music sound level ? Oh, I found some solution, but still it is not enoungh, sound quality is still too poor. I decreased the level of gain in mixvines per deck A into the lowest position (still heareable). But when I compared music from deck played directly but via Cross and played directly to Pioneed - there is no comparison. When deck is attached to Pioneer - it is played crystal and dynamic. When through U46MKII - it is overdriven, too much bass, and so on... It's different, really wrong.
I channed even deinstalled U46MKII software (left only hardware drivers to communicate with that USB sound card) and installed ASIO 4 ALL v2.9. NOTHING BETTER, the same, unuxceptable quality of sound even as for home, not talking about official places... :-(((

2) I cannot calibrate time code vinyls. The best result I received was 93% and only on one Reloop, second one has got 80% aproximatelly. Actually I have about... 20-25% at both !!! Well, there is even no information about calibration, what speed is correct: 33Rpm, 45 Rpm, 78 Rpm ??? I tried on 33 RPM (pitch level O of course).

3) One of my deck scrathes correctly, almost on-line (without any noticable latency), but second one has got about 0.5s latency in the same time.

4) When I play music from Mixvibess Cross, my prcessor is occupied in 15-25%. When I try to add new song, I scratch or somthing - the sound stopes for a short while to play current song. Especially when I load new songs from new directroy is horrible, it makes even 2 second breaks !!!

What to do with that problems ? Can you help me in any way ???

Long problem description but short solution:

Plug you outputs into the line ins of your mixer

This should help!

Check this forums for the optimization of operating systems for audio software. There are a lot of tweaks that help to build a stronger system.

Yeah, it works ! But I noticed new problem, which solved by myself :-))) So when I changed this connection into "line-in" and when I play in direct mode, I mean directly from vinyl ("Line In" mode) - I can hear many, many unexpected sounds, scratches, and distorsions... So the problem I solved with changing in audio preferences in Cross: buffer size from 512 into 224 samples. Strange, but it works ;-)))

There are a lot of possibilities to configure your software, there are even some kind of tricks in it. Always work on your software and it will become your friend ;)
