Stability with long sets

Postby NIGHTMARCHER on 05 Aug 2009, 03:01

Okay I just got booked for my first headliner gig and it's a 4 hour set :) I haven't got mixvibes yet but am seriously thinking about. I'd like to bring something new and innovative to the main stage in Hawaii but I don't want to shell out $300 to have it crash. I've had my first stability issue with SSL last night. and I not sure how I'm feeling about that right now. Hopefully it won't do it again tonight or I'll chuck everything LOL. Has anyone had problems using it for long sets? The gig is next month and I'm kinda stuck between MV and another DVS some rep wanted to hook me up with but not sure I want to use it even though it'll be free I need something stable and reliable.

I Been using MV for about 6-7 years, From the very beginning. I will say this if there are any problems they usually are self inflicted. I had some problem with pro 5 a couples years back right before updating to the new version still never really figured out what that was due to, Tracks would jump kinda like a skip when mixing. I have a sneaky suspicion what was causing that.
(But i'm not gonna comment on that)
With the new version as long as your PC is set up to run the program optimized, I don't for see you having any problems. Just make sure you give yourself a little practice run before you leave the house to play a gig. I mean there are so many variables when it comes to using Laptops especially PC Platforms virus, software conflicts, etc. etc..always bring back up just in case. should be fine.

The major difference between Cross & DVS 7 is
Cross is built on a new sound engine...where DVS 7 is built on the old DVS 6 sound engine

I hate to say it ....but
Cross is the software mixvibes had to make because you can only do so much development on a old engine

Cross don't have much to look at now ( features )
but what it does do ....it does do excellence
and with all the features off DVS 7 to be added to Cross later
the future off Cross looks good

So which would be the better of the 2 and are there any reps located in Hawaii currently?

Hey,

They are both good but different. It really depends on what you want to do. For now DVS has a broader range of features (sampler , effects etc.).
On the other hand, Cross uses a brand new sound engine and the MixVibes team working on it fully to shortly provide users with new features like VST effets and more.
Then the feeling of the two softwares is also a really subjective thing.
I personnaly go for Cross :)

Here is a resellers list:

i've been using Cross since the update 1.2.5 all alone without any backup cds, ( i don't carry cds no more LOL), i do at least one wedding or social event per week, and they are all more than 4 hours, so i would say that for me Cross is very reliable, in about 15 events i only had 2 crashes and im not shure if it was my fault, my machine or other, since there are so many things involve, so everyone using a DVS soft should know that no program is faultless and 100% secure,

what i hope is that the mixvibes team, in order like they said to introduce new things to Cross (like samplers, effects, and so on) put at risk the stability and confidence in Cross, for myself i do prefer Cross style (me been the DJ) and not a traktor alike soft with all the child effects,

I LIKE IT PLAIN AND SIMPLE AS Cross IS RIGHT NOW, " I LOVE MY Cross"

thanks.
