Re: [POLL] Wich TURNTABLE Do You Prefer?

I would like to see a straight arm technics 1200 mkX (mark 10) with a straight arm... my friend showed me a deck that could be scratched at a 75 degree angle, almost vertical.

I think will be very difficult to have a straight arm on a 1200...nowadays the shape, and all the detail that made the 1200 THE turntables in the years it's more a symbol than anything else...furthermore they still sells tt even if the technology behind it's stucked to some years ago. There are better decks on the market, on many side, but the 1200 is still the 1200, rock solid, reliable and a symbol for more than a generation. Until the 1200 will stay on the market I think that the changes they will made to it will be very very slight....IMHO

anyway I own 2x pdx2000 (1 mk I and 1 mk II)

the deck should be the pdx8000 but if well setted and weighted every Vestax deck can be scrathed almost at 90 degrees, personally tried ;) it's because of the tonearm system

It's not that bad actually, I think DJ Focus still sells straight arms for a decent price. http://www.myspace.com/scratchtekshop

Sorry, my english is not so perfect and sometimes what I write doesn't correspond exactly to what I think :)

I was meaning that will be difficult to have a model of 1200 originally coming out from technics with a straight arm. I know there are a plenty of mods for the 1200s.

I think that the turntable you use has something to do with the music you play. I am not shure but i saw a lot of hiphop djs using Vestax TTs instead of techno djs using technics only.
Furthermore i think that it is a matter of choose which turntable the big names use. Often their sound stands for quality and so their equipment does. That is why a lot of techno djs use the 1200 MK II. Nearly every big name wanted to play on these in former times.

Cheers,
A plus,
Steve

You're right, that's because, I think, a turntablist need a more intense use of deck than a techno DJ. A techno DJ only need a rock solid, reliable deck they stay perfectly in pitch as the 1200 do.
A turntablist needs a more powerfull motor, start&stop time, ultra pitch to create effects and the ASTS stright arm technology give to the Vestax decks the plus to be the choice of the most of turntablist.

I sold my 1200's in 97 and got my ttx's when they came out, still think 1200's are lacking in improvement even though there up to mk6 not much has changed.

i LOVE my Numark TTX1s...sure i wish they were TTXs, but I pre-ordered them prior to shipping and i still rock them (a good, what 8 years later at least).

BUT. if i could get my hands on a pair, i'd love to get some Vestax PDX-2300s. Mostly I like the dual sliders for standard pitch and ultra pitch, plus the digital readout so I can tell where i've ultrapitched to. The J-arm is pretty interesting, not the mention the dynamic tonearm weighting system.

PDX-3000s are interesting with the MIDI ability, but loses the LCD screen (most helpful for that ultra-pitch!).

and please, don't try to sway me towards technics...i have 3 decks, and i use them (when my roommate is using my TTXs). Neither of us like the techs at all.
