Unable to decrease Latency to below 27ms Maya44 SE

Postby goonie on 09 Apr 2009, 09:11

Hello,

I am mixing with the Maya 44SE on my desktop since some month now but i wanted to test on my laptop since that is why i bought this card.

Unfortunately, if i decrease the latency under 27ms i get a crappy sound.

I have tested on another laptop and there it works perfecly.

What can i do to make it work on my laptop with a good sound under the 27ms ?

The specs of my laptop are really fine, intel dual core 2.00 ghz, 2 Go of memory and a good graphic card.

I have tested the Maya on windows 7 and xp SP3, both gives exactly the same results.

I am a little bit desparate about this issue.

Do you have any idea ?

Do you have your laptop battery setting on 'power-saver' mode by any chance?

not really aware of the recommended driver version for MAYA, but you should search the forum for information on the best driver.

You might want to try the ASIO4ALL driver out...

Here's the thread for use with the U46, but I'm sure it's the general idea:

is the maya plugged into a USB 1.1 or 2.0 port on your laptop?

maybe the first time you plugged the maya in did you get any warning that the device could perform faster?

if it works fine on your desktop, but gives you bad results over two different OEM's on the same laptop then i recon it's down to a hardware issue/conflict or maybe just not enough bandwidth on the usb port to run at a low latency.

check on the supprt website of your latop that it doesnt require drivers for USB 2 support.

let us know how you get on..

regards,
Bryan

Thx for your answer.

In fact the soundcard works perfectly on my Business Laptop et on My computer, it is only on my personal laptop that i got some slight crackly sound.

My laptop is recent so i can take USB 2.0 and i did not have a message to say that this device can run faster.

I took the latest Maya 44 driver from the download section, it seems to improve a bit the situation but still a slight crackly sound.

I could indeed use the Asio4ALL but i am a bit afraid not to be able to manager to control Panel but still this is to try ;)
The only issue is that the installation auto install the Asiodriver for the card.

Laptop : Compal HEL80, CPU Dual core 2.00 Ghtz, 2 go of memory.

If anyone got other ideas, it is always welcome ;)

No I did not found a solution.

Since i am mixing with a keyboard, 27ms is just fine.

I have installed windows 7 and since the latest installation 7077 i haven't heard any crackly sound.

If you found something to decrease i am always open ;)

is the sound card connected to an usb hub? may be you can try to deactivate the integrated sound card of the laptop, but not from windows, directly from the bios at the computer startup. this will completely deactivate your actual sound card. You can try.

Also try to check in the hardware manager if there's some device with an alarm, may be an installation of some component hasn't ran good.

Another problem could be some process or service in background that slow up everything. This card is not so powerfull, so the biggest load is on the cpu, andh the cracky sound is when your cpu can't afford the amount of request (easily explained :D) try to kill all the processes in background, check the servicesif ther's some that can slow down the cpu or anyway some process not usefull for you.

If the problem persist try to install the asio4all, I've passed from 512 to 128 samples....

Let us know ;)
