your thoughts on old stanton 505 sk2 scratch needles

Postby wazza on 19 Apr 2009, 15:26

when I got my PDX 2000 mk2 turntable off a friend it got a 505 needle & cartridge......but the needle is F##KED

lately I have only ever used Shure 447's & Ortofon's
on my PDX 2300 pro turntable I'v got a Shure 447 thats going to need to be replaced soon

so for a Shure 447 needle & cartridge + a 447 needle...here in OZ its $180.00 aud
or I can get this pac for $150http://www.jdsound.com.au/catalog_details.asp?ProdID=1757
2 needles & cartridge on headshells + 2 spear needles...
that will give me a spear needle & cartridge on a headshall + one for each turntable & a spear needle & I will save $30.00

I must admit I do have a softed spot for stanton needles
back in the old days when I started D.Jing ...before SHURE & ORTOFON we only used stanton al 500

so do I stick with the Shure 447...the needles I know & love ???
or do I give these old needles ago & save some $$$...???
has anyone used the old 505 mk2 needles and what do you think off them

My friend has these as a fall back set, though they seem just as good as the Trackmasters.

we have never used them with timecode though so i cant comment there.

I've always used Stanton needles - just because I've never had the spare cash to go for Shuree M44-7s. Looks like a bargain to me...
