No recording with microphone.

Postby Calc on 19 Dec 2008, 22:40

A friend of mine gave me a old U46DJ (ESI) and I'm trying to record some singing. I know that this isn't the esi forum, but the esi forum is crap and nobody wants to help..Hope you dont mind.

I've the mic (Shure SM57) plugged into the mic input and the knob moved to MIC.

My drivers are 1.0.39. I can record guitar by connecting to the Hi-Z input.. I'm using Sonar, but for testing I'm just using the windows recording thing..I figure if that doesn't work, Sonar will not either.

I would really appretiate some help Thank you.

I am not using Mixvibes to record..I know this is the mixvibes forum, but I'm running out of places to ask for help. I hope you understand.
I have tried turning on phantom power with no help.

Do I need some special type of microphone wire or anything exotic like that? :)

That's fine Cale

The SM 57 is the instrument MIX right ? make sure you are using a balanced jack in the input of the U46 with your static mic or the phantom power won't work.

have you activated the recording through the correct output in the software you are using ?

One more thing..Isn't the SM7 dynamic, so it does not need phantom power...

indeed it is dynamic

what software are you using ? What are you trying to record ?

the 57 is made to record very powerful signals, like amps at full blast.

I'll record both amps and vocals. Software is Sonar.
ESI support is trying to help me out, they are trying to figure out what may be wrong. I'll post updates as I figure this out..

A little update..
As it is Christmas I have not talked to ESI support, but I got the chance to try the card on two other computers.

I tried with a desktop and a laptop, with exactly the same result.

I can not record using the microphone input. I can record by plugging the mic into the Hi-Z input though, but with a lot of background static..

Hi!
1. The Shure SM57 is a classical vocal mic used on stage. It´s dynamic so it don´t need phantom power!
2. Are you shure, that the mike and the cable are ok? Test it with another input. Maybe with a mixing desk!
3. Chanel 1&2 are the microphon chanels. Activate it in your recording software.
