I think discovering new music is one of the most important parts of being a successful DJ mainly because the music we find is the main ingredient of what we use to build a hopefully engaging and exciting journey in our sets.
Finding that gem of a track is exciting and we all enjoy playing it out and sharing it with our audience. The tracks we find along with the programming and how we mix them together is what can make each of us unique as DJs.
I think I'm probably right in that most of us want to find those gems first. I suspect even though we all have our favorite places to get our music and our own unique ways of finding it we probably all have similar frustrations such as the sheer amount there is out there each week to sift through.
What do you find frustrating or what do you think would make it easier for you to find music and help you create your own style?

at this stage in my game ,,dont get to frustrated ,, almost 40 yrs and still enjoying music ,, kinda selective,, but still enjoy hearing something new /fresh/different .. no real audience ,to pander too but myself and family,, so the hunt is not that critical ,,mostly use sites like sound cloud to get taste of new things ,,radio play for current ,, and the mix/vid section for also different listening ,, ,,in this day and age of the world wide web you have more advantages and selection /resources than earlier ,,but not sure if the vinal is still out there for the lovers of that sound ,,

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your quick reply. I agree you now have plenty of resources to find new music on the net. It sounds like Soundcloud is a big element of how you discover new sounds. Would you mind sharing how you go about searching for new sounds on Soundcloud?

open a sound cloud account and search
What would you be searching for specifically?

Thanks Daniel, yep I get that, what I mean and I should have been clearer. What specifically would you be putting in the search box? What would you be using as the starting point of your search?
