Adding tracks to collection Cross 3.2.0

Postby elationdjs on 27 Jun 2014, 02:10

Hi Guys,

Before I overwrite something... All my collection is now fine and running. So, say I get 30 tracks to add all in different folders under a main root folder on my PC - do I then drag that root folder (with many subfolders) onto the collection node and any tracks not in the collection will then be picked up when scanned & then added, it wont affect any tracks in the collection already will it?

Cheers John

The new tracks will be added.
Cross uses the location (path+filename) as a unique identifier.
The tags of these will be verified. If you edited info in Cross, without 'disable writing to tags', then all the audio tags will be identical and nothing changes.
If you're not sure, just make a copy of your collection and try.

I use folders too on a External Drive.

I add about 40-50 tracks a week to my Collection. It might be long winded but I do it like this.

Collection > Import Directory >Computer > H Drive(my external Drive) > OK

It takes about 10 mins to check and import everything. I normally go and make a cuppa tea then ;)

Once Cross has imported everything, click on the Analyse (A) Column, highlight all the files without a tick and hit Analyse.

As I have said, it might be long winded but it works for me ;)

My personal take on adding / sorting :

I have main genre folders on hard drive (HOUSE, NUDISCO, ROCK, DISCO etc) where I move songs according to genre type.

In CrossDJ playlists I have the same main genre names as folders that contain playlists and sublists (HOUSE > HOUSE DEEP, HOUSE TECH, HOUSE URBAN & GARAGE etc)

When put any new songs into their drive folder, I move the same songs into the main genre playlist (which obviously get added to the whole collection as well). And over time, I copy song titles from the main genre to sub genre playlists.

This means I have both file structure somewhat organized as well as the collection with playlists. Handy for backups and other playback systems.

After adding new tracks I go to smartlist 'Not analyzed' , select everything and click on analyze.

For someone this may sound like too many steps but it works for me.

Thanks guys,

some great ways there - I ended up dragging the sub-folder on the external drive to the collection and importing the newly added tracks then smart list, analyse and job done.

I was worried about moving away from the folder structure that VDJ8 uses but I must admit I have taken to the collection way quite well. :)
