Hi HawnSolo,

Sorry forgot to mention that I am using a USB3 PMCIA Card so the drive is running at USB3 speed.

Another thing I've just noticed is that even when the hard drive is disconnected the same issue applies. Does this mean its obviously something wrong with the database? The database size is only 86MB if I remove it and create a blank new database file operations are fine, add the old one again and issues again.

The size of your db should be workable. Mine is appx 5 times yours in filesize. What might be going on is that Cross is working on adding the artwork.
Not fully sure how this process works, but think it tries to add for tracks visible in screen. With your new db some catching up is to be done.
When adding small batches (like a cd or so) you normally don't notice this.

Hi RoJeC

What I've noticed today is that even with Cross just sitting idle, even if the screen is minimised the cpu usage is at around 30% for the Cross process.

Is this normal for Cross or if not in use should it just be consuming a couple of cpu cycles. If this is not normal it would explain that Cross is doing something background related, although I've got no idea what.

I can however disconnect the external hard drive so there is no link to the media files and it is still running at around 30% CPU usage for the Cross process.

It also may have something to do with the fact that I analysed all the tracks on my I7 desktop (same external hard drive connected as used on laptop with same drive letter) then when all done copied the database and the analysis file from the i7 PC over to the laptop, that is when everything on the laptop started struggling.

LATEST UPDATE - MAYBE FIXED??

Hi Guys,

Ok - While still on this one and determined to find out what it was I plugged in a Scarlett Focusrite Sound Card and swapped the settings in Cross to use the Focusrite Soundcard instead of the Laptop internal one. I then restarted Cross, guess what - the hanging has gone??? Not sure why, obviously will need to test more but its deffo down to under a second when switching between videos and music. Maybe there was huge latency in the Laptop card or something that was lagging it, anyway, at the moment all is well.... Ill keep you all posted - hope this helps anyone else with issues... Now we can play.... :)

You can try the asio4all driver for the soundcard. This is the recommended way to use wdm cards.

:cool: good find :eek: didnt realise you where using the laptops sc ,, info as to what sc the laptop is running and maybe spec ,, have used installed sc for just playing with out the need for a monitor channel and havent expericenced this ,, :cool:
