Mixvibes Cross LE with Allen & Heath Xone23C

Postby Splintha on 23 May 2014, 12:40

He Ho,

i would like to buy the new Allen & Heath Xone23C which comes with an internal soundcard and the Mixxvibes Cross LE DJ Software.

I got a few questions to that. I am currently using 2 turntables and i would like to combine them with the Mac and the Mixvibes Cross LE Software. Is it possible to play an Audio Track on the Software with Mac and mix it with the Turntables on the Allen & Heath? This would be necessary for me, so i dont need any cd player at all.

Another question is if it is possible to record sets i am playing with this procedure ? Well so i am playing with the 2 Turntables, Allen & Heath Xone23C as the Mixer und with the Mac an Mixvibes Cross LE Software i play 2 Decks with MP3s and record all this with Mixxvibes at the same time?

If thats not possible i think i wont need the Xone23C

Thank you very much,

Splin

Yes, you can use inputs. Cross can handle both phono as line level inputs. For using Timecode you would need Cross (full version, not DJ or LE).
Inputs are linked to a deck. You can on the fly change a deck from playing Mac to input and vv.

All played via inputs in a deck or direct from the deck can be recorded. (like master out)

Welcome; Welcome to...
Didn't check options of Xone, but you need to be able to connect the 2 inputs..

I think you got me a little wrong. Maybe because of my english ;-)

I dont want to use timecode, i want to play with my own records and nothing digitalised.
What exactly do you mean by Inputs are linked to a deck?

My setup would look like that:
the 2 phono inputs for the turntables and through the usb cable i would like to use the 2 line inputs and play my mp3s with the mac and mixxvibes Cross.

Did you mean by on the fly that i can activate the line and the phono at the same time with the Xone23C?

you said:
All played via inputs in a deck or direct from the deck can be recorded. (like master out)

It is really possible to send in both ways through the USB cable with whom Mixxvibes Cross is connected? So i play my turntables without timecode...just real records ;) and at the same time 2 mp3 decks on the line inputs with Cross software? And then at the same time i can all record this with the software? Would be great but hard to imagine...sending in both ways and recording all that like master out.

Thank you very much for your help...and i have to ask again, because i dont want to buy something that doesnt fit my needs ;)

No mather how good either of our English is, the software will bring our thoughts together...

Ok. You use phono. If your tt (turntable) has Line out, please use that. A amplifier of a tt usually is the best for that specific tt.

In Cross Preferences | audio tab: select inputs of your soundcard and set type to line or phono (as you set up your tt). You may adjust volume, but do this later if needed.

In the mixer deck (central in GUI) you see an A and a B. Click and you can change from Deck to Input. This is possible on the fly (you can even set a MIDI command to toggle this.

I think with your LE you have 2 decks (not 4). The recording uses the file playing in the deck OR the Input. Meanwhile your deck can continue to play (so you can 'bypass' a part of the track by switching to your tt).

Hope this answers it. If not, just let us know...

thank you very much!

My Stanton ST-150 II has a line out and a phono out...you can switch.
So i will use the phono out, so i can use the 2 line inputs for playing my mp3s with Cross LE. 2 Decks is definetly enough as i only have 2 line inputs on the Xone23C.

And thanks again...i think i got it now. So there is the possibility to play 4 Tracks at the same time with my setup? 2 records on each Turntables and 2 mp3s on the mac which i can adjust on the mixer too? That would be great...

But there is one thing left i didnt really understand.
I can record the 2 Decks i play on Line input from my mac with the Cross LE but am i also available to records everything i play through the mixer ? So for example a complete set with all the 4 Tracks i am playing at the same time? Is this possible? 2 Tracks playing on phono input and 2 tracks playing on line input and all together is recorded by the Cross LE?

Thank you very much for your fast help!

The 'Cross mixer' in LE has two 'internal' input channels. A and B.

A/B by default are the digital files playing in the deck A/B.

You can switch this by selecting not to send the deck audio, but the Input signal to the Cross mixer.

By this the tt audio that comes via the inputs is recorded in the mix (master). So given your 2deck+2tt audio sources you can at any time record 2 ((deck A or tt1) AND (deck B or tt2)).

You say to use phono output for the Stanton. If however a tt has a line output, always use that. The build in amplifier for this function normally is the best, as it was build for the tt characteristics.

Thanks for taking the time!

So i only got the chance to play and record 2 channels at one time with Cross LE. Is it also possible to select tt1 for a and tt2 for b and then record a mix?

The Cross mixer doesnt support the phono input at all? So there is no need to upgrade to the full version to have 4 channels because i only can use the 2 line inputs and not the phono inputs with the software?

The possible setup is:
((deck A or tt1) AND (deck B or tt2)).
and deck A for tt1 and deck B for tt2 if i plug both on the 2 line input?

And again...4 sources at one time arent possible at all? (2 phono for tts und 2 line in from the Cross Software?

Yes.

Cross does support.
Phono sounds is a very low volume. It has to be amplified to line volume.
The amplifier that is build in a turntable usually is the best for the quality as it has been balanced in a laboratory for that specific equipment. Other amplifiers, like Cross or an external, will amplify in a 'generic way'.

So there is no need to upgrade to the full version to have 4 channels because i only can use the 2 line inputs and not the phono inputs with the software?

Guess you don't have have to. If you do, please be aware that Cross DJ does not support time code (if you need it). Check out the comparison chart if you want to make a decision on what versiuon fits your needs.

((deck A or tt1) AND (deck B or tt2)).

Can't tell for your LE, but in Cross DJ or Cross a 3rd input is available being Aux in. This is a line level input. If it is there you'll see it under the 2 other inputs.

Thank you very much for your help. I think i got it now :)

My MacBookPro doesnt provide an aux in...so there is no possibility for me to use a 3rd input.

And because of that i need this mixer with a software to record something.
There is the possibility to change the input during the recording? So i start with both tts on Deck A and B und change for example Deck A to play a mp3 during the recording and later change back to Deck A using the tt again?
