Is it just me or...

Postby djnumix on 12 May 2014, 02:07

Has anyone else noticed that when using echo and delay FX there is a slight pause or worse the track is sped up to chipmunk levels for a brief moment and then starts FX? Ive tried Cross on 3 different MacBooks and its the same on them all.

Could you tell the FX routing/setup you used for FX 1 and 2. (input master/deck/bidimensional settings/..).
Did you use audio only or video as well...

Might be best to provide a screen capture of the GUI and the audio settings in preferences when it happens, so the same situation can be tested.

As Daniel mentions there are quite some similarities in the 2 effects. The echo of the echo rolling over the next echo of the echo of the echo and then the copy drops in delayed...
Meaning to say that the echo's build up when abled, emphasized by the delay that kicks in after that in time. So it takes a short while before the FX are (can be) in a continuing mode. Than it is depending on the source if it sounds continuing..

And I guess by chipmunks you do not mean the silent animals living in the forest, but the few civilized artists from this breed...

I meant each effect had the same issue not using them together  ....try echo set to half way (not using bi dimensional FX) and you may hear it

Ok; tested a few times, FX using it's deck below as input.

Definitely heard your chipmunks a few times, like after appx 1sec (hard to tell exactly when). After that sound is stabilized.

I am not able to figure out yet what the circumstances are. Tried switching several ways, but seems to happen some kind of random.

Also have the idea that after a certain moment it does not happen no longer.

Maybe others can test and try to figure out a well, as it is very disturbing for the audience if this would happen live.

Phew thought it was just me... It seems to happen when the effect is used for the first time on a track and then its ok after. I tried same effects in Traktor as well as VDJ and it wasn't a problem

Ever since I started using Cross (1.4) Echo and Delay have been like this. I didn't check again on them until this weekend and experience the same as you describe here.
MacBook Pro - 15" (Mid 2014)
2.2Ghz Processor
16GB RAM

U-Mix Control Pro 2
Cross 3.3.10

I'm not 100% sure, but it might be a product of the type of effect that Cross uses for the echo and delay. It's been a few years but I remember my professor in psycho-acoustic class demonstrated this effect with some old vst delay (can't remember specifics) and I think a lot of cheaper guitar delay and echo pedals will do the same. To me it seems like it happens because you change the rate of the delay/echo while the previous sound is feeding back into the effect, which then changes the speed and pitch of the sound (if that makes sense).

Was thinking the same phenomenon when I saw this very thread. :)
