I'm not currently on my windows 8.1 machine, but one thing I could think that may help your issue, is to make sure that the files or drive are not write protected. I found this link: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-fix ... usb-stick/

Hope that's helpful!

 thanks for the reply hannes ,, the files were backed up on a wd passport,,and hopefully restored to my new computer ,, having issues mainly with the saved pic and videos ,, still going around in circles ,, havent gotten rid of the old hard drive yet but recovery of that might be iffiey due to the in op of that systemno major disaster since 99 % of my music files are usable ,, let me know if you think of any thing else ,, tried to remove the read only to see if that works ,, still going in circles

Daniel

For Cross and CrossDJ 3.0 in Windows 8.1 the MIDI files are in

C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Mixvibes\Controllers\
Keyboard\
for the keyboard map and in
C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Roaming\Mixvibes\Controllers\
MIDI
for the controllers

If using Cross 2.6
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Mixvibes\Cross\Controllers\
Keyboard\
for the keyboard map and in
C:\Users\"user name"\AppData\Roaming\Mixvibes\Cross\Controllers\
MIDI
for the controllers

If using CrossDJ 2.6
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Mixvibes\CrossDj\Controllers\Keyboard\
for the keyboard map and in
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Roaming\Mixvibes\CrossDj\Controllers\MIDI
for the controllers

In all cases username is the name of your account in windows
My user name is Victor yours might be Daniel that's why I listed that part in quotation marks.

File rights in W8 (think 7 to) are somewhat different. Just like admin rights are little less than in Vista (you will run into this..). Super admin exists as well...

For the files you likely have to change user rights to the folders/files. Goto root-foldername of your concerning files in Explorer. Right click. Properties | security

Play around there. Been a while I used that when starting with 8. Likely a username for the files is inherited from the backup. Try making other owner, so the 'user' can be removed. Second option/to do is to provide access rights to your user/group.

As you experienced it has nothing to do with the 'classic' read rights; the new method is more powerful... Helps preventing malware, getting nightmares, cursing, and several other advantages...(they say).
Good news is that once setup you likely do not have this much more.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).
