Filter Pop

Postby rhopkins on 22 Jan 2014, 08:06

When I turn the filter to on I hear a pop noise just before the filter effect kicks in.

What would cause this? Been meaning to ask for a while, probably started to happen two versions back.

No other sound effect or mixer change causes this pop/crackle noise.

It may be a defect in the filter itself...
We'll look into it.

I can't hear any pop.
Is this happening each time you turn it on?
What are you audio settings (buffersize/samplerate)? I'll ry to match your config.

I was a little vague on setup.

I use a U-Mix Control Pro 2, buffer size 160 samples, 3.6ms. Dual stereo.

No, it doesn't happen every time. Also, I have the gain knob mapped to the filter dial. Mid-point is no filter, hi or lo. Seems to only happen when I turn to hi. Occurs very quickly but it's noticeable and appears on playback of a recorded mix.

I haven't experimented with different sample/buffer rates to see if it stops. I use advanced systemcare's turbo boost functionality to stop all services, uneccesary applications and wifi is always off.

I'm STILL experiencing this with the new RCs. Am I the only person? :(

I've since installed a brand new SSD and installed Windows 8 from fresh. I'm feeling like this is something in my mapping of the UMCP2.

How do others map the filter on the UMCP2?

Do you have audio cache in General set to max? (not likely related, but ...)

Does it happen when using mouse instead of knob?

You changed mapping. Do up and down have same (+/-) values? If so what are the values?
Did you change other settings as well? If so maybe posting your settings file could be tested by others (if mouse works OK, try making some adjustments in reducing change speed/accel).

It are just some general suggestions as it might be somewhat exclusive, though it could be that others haven't test MIDI for filter yet.

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

I've experimented with cache settings. Doesn't appear to affect whether this happens or not. It is currently set to max. When it's set to 0 i lose a bit of all round performance.

Yes, I *think* it happens when I use the mouse too.

Will send settings later. I'm no expert with mapping a. I tried to widen the mid-point before but couldn't - what I mean is, I tried to create a wider area that would mean that the filter would be off as the knob/dial reached vertical position. Hard to explain but I wonder if this would solve the problem.

Oh, up and down values. I didn't set them. Simply selected the gain knob/dial and then moved it round all the way to the left and right and left the values as Cross determined them. Didn't set them myself.

Let me know if you fix it!
