Suggestion for the forum regarding feature suggestions

Postby FigDJ on 26 Mar 2014, 15:51

In recent threads I noticed suggestions are made and there is really no indication on the user side if it is going to be implemented or not, unless someone in the development team provides a response. As a moderator I can only guest and as a Betatester I am bound to safeguard the information.

I am not suggesting that Mixvibes reveals what are they working on next and tip their hand to the competition. I am merely suggesting a method to track suggestions that would provide and indication to the users on the likehood a suggestion would be considered to become a feature.

Example:Taking something that is already in the 3.1.0 RC
Suggestion: Please add a reverb FX.

Someone in the team reads and summarize the request.
Place a sticky thread or a table in athread or something that can gather the votes + or - from the users and adds them come up with a net number.

If the suggestion had 50 votes on the + and 10 votes on the - then the resulting number would be 40.
That would give an indication to the person making the suggestion on how well their suggestion is received among the rest of the users, and based on ranking with other suggestions and indication of the likehood for implementation.

If sugestion
#1 had a net number of 100
#2 had a net number of 73
.....
#67 had a net number of 3
#75 had a net number of -3

A system like that in the forum would inform the customers and also give an indication to the developers on the popularity among current users for the suggestions based on the net #

Net # = (# number of positive votes) + (number of negative votes)
1 vote per registered user.

I do understand your feelings for such a system. My experience with (global) reselling software for over 20 years (both owned as 3rd party) is that within no time this results in outdated issues.

To my opinion the MVteam implements many features requested. Mostly in there own way. Also users do express their +1 (or some like that).

The devteam has to be months ahead of the current version. If not in programming than on the future direction objectives.

Most important is that new features create turnover. That's the only way updates can be free of charge... As changes in software are never easy (time needed to change code costs appx 10% of all costs involved in the change process).

I'd rather be surprised by the new features which are feasible by new technology than having the development/quality dept. spend time on lists that are outdated.

What I think are the best suggestions to have the best product in the longterm are those from the DJ's that have access to the latest hardware and software, so MV knows what's out there (in addition to there exhibition visits).

This outbeats the many 'nice to have' features that are suggested (e.g. by me).

(not even mentioning the challenges in keeping the input clean without fake input)

Matter of opinions. In my opinion the way of collecting suggestions right now seems disorganized and does not provide a sense to the customer on how those suggestion may be received either by other DJs or Mixvibes. I have also been in the software development and software engineering business since 1984.

Lets keep this real, it is a suggestion to make things better. I am just a moderator just like you. Unless you are more than a moderator in the Mixvibes food chain, I find it pretty arrogant and condescending that you just flat out shut down a suggestion without a member from Mixvibes itself commenting about it.
