software compatibility?

Postby nicdavis21 on 15 Oct 2013, 01:12

Hello! I am a new DJ, about to order a Vestax USB Mixer(VMC002XLu) and I have a few questions. Before I spend even MORE money, I'd like to make sure I will have everything a DJ would need with a vinyl emulator setup. Right now I have (on a wishlist) two Audio-Technica AT-LP60 turntables, and I have CrossDJ downloaded onto my MacBook Pro. I recently asked an expert at Guitar Center about what I need to complete my setup. They told me I'd need a DVS or a Vinyl Emulator to complete my setup. Seeing as those can be really expensive and usually calibrated to fit specific softwares, I think I've found a way around it. If I get the USB mixer and upgrade my software from CrossDJ to Cross (which, I believe, has a VES integrated into the software) I'd possibly be able to plug my mixer directly into mu computer and play my MP3s onto my control vinyl. If I can do this, is there anything else I need? Does the VES cost extra or does it come with the Cross software? Should I invest in a Rane product and make everything easier? How should I set up my mixer once it's ready? Does CrossDJ have a built in VES, or is that just Cross? Thanks so much for the support, I hope to hear back from you as soon as possible.

  first things first :!: :!: if you have crossdj then regerster the licence key on the fourm,, :!:  :!: this will allow you to upgrade to Cross at a reduced price  :!:
you will need the Cross software to run time code vinal
second go to the product page and look at the doccumation for Cross and time code set up ,, not shure of the compatiability of your mixer set up ,,but the basics set up info will shed some light on what you need to know and what to purches to get a digital vinal set up running ,,
 after all that then any other :?: can be answered because you understand what the t c set up is about ,,,will post a link to doccumation,

You can use any external 4in 4out USB soundcard, although the less you pay, the lower the quality (Generally)

I started out with a stanton final scratch open scratchamp for around £35 from Ebay. It is Firewire though, not USB but worked great on my macbook.

I used this with Cross and Virtual DJ to get a feel for the better software.

I liked both but went with mixvibes due to the cost of VDJ and the fact that Cross was more stable.

You will need the Cross Pack to be able to play timecodes. This is the top package that they sell.

I was confused by the different names at first but ended up getting the U-Mix Control Pro 2 and selling the scratchamp.

I got the full Cross version with my control pro 2 and it allows me to run vinyl through its internal 4-in 4-out soundcard. I had less wires running all over the place, its easy to set up and if I was going to choose another unit further down the line, I would get something with an internal soundcard.

I really like the hardware and with some tweaking, the software is pretty good too for the price.

Thanks so much! As of this moment, I'm just using my MIDI controller (Numark mixdeck) to save up some money to buy a more complex 2 turntable setup. I need someone to literally list out everything I'll need for using a DVS setup. It's a lot of complicated stuff. With the turntables and mixer I will have, can I simply buy the Cross Pack and run my mixer through the plugin that comes with that? I'll use the control (timecode) vinyl on my AudioTechnicas and use Cross, but I need to know it'll work before investing much more money into it. Thanks for all of the help so far!
