Decisions on what software and controller to use.

Postby Diskized on 01 Oct 2013, 21:06

Hello again all!

So I tried out Cross DJ and I watched quite a few videos about the software. It's pretty good from what I've seen with only a couple if things I don't like. I think the biggest thing is not being able to use my controller with the free version. But all in all it resembles Torq quite a bit. My question is what should I get Cross DJ or Cross? From what I've seen Cross DJ has 2 decks and 2 samplers while Cross has 4 decks (correct me if I'm wrong). The other question is: is there another DJ software that I should try out?

I have the Torq Xponent and I'm going to be getting a new controller soon. The one I'm looking at is the American Audio VSM 4.1. Is this a good choice for Cross or is there a different controller that is better. What I'd like to do is run the Xponent and another controller so I can play 4 decks instead of having to switch back and forth on one controller. Also a MIDI mapping for the Xponent would be great.

All in all I like how Cross looks but I'd like to hear some feedback about some of the features that I don't get with the free version. Thanks again everyone!

Cross and CrossDJ are basically the same program. The only differences being, is that CrossDJ does not have Timecode
or HID support.

I would say not.

I believe the AA VMS 4.0 needs some sort of special firmware in order for it to be used with Cross (but I may be wrong) so you may run into problems with the VMS 4.1 and you may need a similar solution for it.

I use the Hercules 4-Mx with Cross and it works great with the software. I also have the MixVibes U-Mix Control Pro 2 which mirrors the software down to a tee. This is great little controller as
well.

But there is a shed load of good controllers out there at the minute.

Well I saw something about the AA VMS 4.0 having a firmware update somewhere on this site. I like this controller because of the 4 channel inputs and faders, and the number of inputs on it. If you know of a controller that is better than this let me know.

Also is it safe to say that I should just buy Cross DJ instead of Cross just to start out? Thanks again

Well if you don't need timecodes or HID at the present then go for it ;)

You can always upgrade to Cross at a later date
