This way, whenever I do changes and add music, this is automatically updated in MixVibes. With a system like this in place, I would only have to worry about organizing on my HDD and the rest would be automatic.

  do realy want a software to automaticly update your collection
 guess you havent had bad experiences with tag editors that mess up your tags by filling in the missing fields ,,automaticly

I agree with this, if you don't wanna make 1000's of playlists to reflect your music file structure. It really is a royal PITA!
Be aware though, that if you happen to add tracks to a particular folder after you've started mixvibes, it won't show up until your next session. IE: I doesn't update each time you open that folder.... which is probably a good thing stability wise.

Whay I usually do when adding tracks to my music disk is to drag and drop them (usually a folder) right away with the Explorer on the Collection pane in Cross.
Every now and then drag and drop the 'root' folder to have verified that I always did this....

A question for new functionality would be to be able to filter a smartlist by the (File) Location filed (and default sort).

It also would make it possible to create a smartlist folder structure like the filestructure (though I would recomment to use e.g. the 'genre' tag).

Audio dropouts? Increase audio 'buffer size' value.

Soundcard not available/working? Try the 32bit version of Cross (is also installed).

The smartlist might work out but I'm still uncertain of how the structure will look.

For instance, in my library I have a folder for Albums which again contains folders after artist name which also contain another subfolder for each album name. Means the folder structure would look like this:

MUSIC ROOT FOLDER --> ALBUMS --> ARTIST NAME --> ALBUM NAME --> Album Mp3 track files.

Achieving this kind of structure with lists can be a daunting task. I have already started a bit to organize with folders in Cross DJ that contain playlists for now. There is one "weakness" to this though which is that I have to dig down to each playlist in order to see the content.

Serato for instance have a quite smart feature when it comes to their crates. If I have crates with subcrates, Serato will always show me everything that exists inside the crate. By this I mean that when The ALBUM folder is highlighted, every track that exists in the lower levels are shown. If I move down to a specific ARTIST NAME, Every track from every ALBUM within this folder is shown and finally, if I want to see tracks for just one ALBUM, I highlight that specific album folder (In this case, the lowest subfolder in the hierarchy).

This feature does make the browsing a lot more easier when I just want to browse around. Sometimes I just don't have a set planned and I browse through my music on the fly to decide what to play next or later.

Seems like to 'Column Browser' function in Cross: the left one of the buttons just left of the search field (not available in autoplay).

When activated you can easily select on one or more of 'genre, 'artist' and 'album'.
Does not require any setup and you may find it even more convenient as all artist tracks are present also when the source album is not artist related (e.g. top 40 year collection).

note: you can change the height of the column section.

I've looked into the collumn browser but it does not seem to give me what I want.

I really like the feature to just simply add my music folder to the same column as we find the Collection, Files, Prepare, Autoplay list.
Adding my folder here gives me all the folder structure I want. The problem with this however is that this does not import the folders contents to the library as it only works as a shortcut to that specific path.

Dragging the same folder over "Collection" to import the music and analyze it isn't much of a hassle so that part would be ok for me.
What I am missing though is why do we have fewer options in regards to columns that we can display in the browser when looking directly at files on the HDD?

I am here specifically missing artwork and color columns. These are available at every other browser except the files browser.

Also, when I'm browsing my music folder with Cross DJ, the program can't see what files exist inside the folders, meaning I can't search for files if I'm on the root folder.

If any developers read this, I hope it might be an interesting feature to add for future versions. Also when it comes to browsing with a music library containing folders and sub folders it is a real advantage if the software can see through the folders to reveal all the content inside a folder and filtering this out as I browse deeper into the folder structure. Serato DJ has a really good feature for this that can be switched on in the settings called "Include Subcrate Tracks".

So for me the only things missing to make my music browsing experience in Cross DJ complete would be:

* All the same column options for all browsers.
* "Include subfolder tracks feature".

Cross & Serato work in a similar way, in that both require playlists / crates to utilize all the functions of the browser to it's fullest.
I think the main reason for less options when browsing files through your folders, is that Cross isn't reading the id3 tags. It is simply allowing you to scroll through the files in your folders. The Cross database is there to relieve your system from reading all the tags each time you open a folder. Imagine if at a gig, you open a folder containing 200 or 300 tacks, while a deck is playing. Cross would freeze up while trying to read 300 tags to put all that info on the screen. A possible solution would be to have Cross build (and display) the database according to file location (I think this may be how Traktor does it)
