This has happened suddenly. For some reason, Windows 7 on my laptop has stopped recognising MIDI devices - my Control Pro, and also my Numark DJ2GO which I tried, just to check the system - neither worked. Windows DOES recognise the U-Mix Control Pro soundcard though, and it works as normal - it's just the MIDI that is not working. I'd greatly appreciate any help that you guys could give, as I no longer want to be a 'keyboard DJ'! Thanks in advance Edit: I've also tried numerous cables - none work, so I'm assuming that something's gone wrong within Windows. Edit #2: I've tried both devices on Virtual DJ too - same result. Also, Windows 7 does see the devices in control panel, and says that they are both working correctly!

I did post this as solved - but forget that! It's happened again, and I can't do a system restore again as a recent cleanup got rid of them! I'm tearing my hair out here - doing live gigs with just a mouse is gonna drive me insane! Any help would be greatly appreciated... ps. I have searched the net - the MIDI problems are not unique to me - there's loads of people with similar problems, but there's no decent help that I can find.

I hope you guys don't have this problem - halt all updates until it becomes clear what's causing it. I've had my Windows 7 x64 system for a year now, and never had a problem with MIDI devices - and now when things go wrong, the Microsoft people, and so-called MIDI experts on the internet are chasing thier own asses! Anyone got a cheap Mac for sale? Or shall we push harder for that Linux release?

This sounds like a registry problem of some sort. I've used Win 7 Pro 64-bit for roughly two years now, never had MIDI issues (used several different devices). Perhaps some registry cleaning could help - on the other hand, a third party application could be the culprit behind this problem. Maybe there is some common denominator, hardware or software.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it.
I've tried both of your suggestions, but no luck I'm afraid. Windows can see my Control Pro/DJ2GO when I connect them, and it does put an entry in Device Manager, but that's all I get. No MIDI devices show up in my programs!
Strangely, VDJ does actually recognise the soundcard part of th Control Pro and works fine, but no MIDI control. Cross DJ doesn't recognise that a controller is present at all.

Finally I'm back in business - it took a factory restore to put it right! I also have a pretty good idea what caused the problem: before noticing the problem, I gave the computer a clean up, using various tools and programs, two of those being 'Advanced System Care' and 'Ccleaner', both of which have a registry clean function. I'm pretty sure that one of those programs deleted one or more vital registry keys, disabling 'MIDI in' functionality. I will be more careful in the future!
