- try a cd player to see if you can have a perfect signal. If yes, vinyl must be dirty/worn, if not your inputs or soundcard is faulty (or maybe non compliant with your computer).

Thank you, appreciate the reply support!

I swapped the stylus and got the same results. The other stylus (styli!?) that I purchased gave me dreadful results, but that is a lesson learned - they were generic Stanton replacements.

Swapping cables doesn't make a difference.

Swapping the whole headshield between decks appeared to resolve my issues. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, I have to say.

When I get home I'll switch everything back on and see if everything is still stable. This is my main problem - I resolve the various problems I have and change nothing between the next practice and it doesn't work. So, so frustrating.

So you've got connections issue on the deck side, I guess between headshield and tonearm.

When I say swap I mean that I moved the left to the right and vice-versa. So that seems weird.

Well, well, well.

I decided disconnect most of my setup just now. I reconnected everything, but I have different quality cables between each connection. I made sure that the two best cables I used went from my decks to the U46.

Calibrated and everything seemed fine straight away (using RC), using the new ESI drivers. This is rare!

Practiced for 45 minutes. No drop outs. Great responsiveness. Only slight problems with dust (tut tut to me   )

Not sure what I've learned, other than maybe all the cables jumbled behind my desk was perhaps causing an issue, that I need to get better quality cables all round?

Either way, that was fun! :)

Cables are always a weak spot.

GET GOOD CABLES!!! That is a basic rule.

Try Neutric cables, they don't get any noise through. If you knwo cable making you can make your own, of you get the cable and the connectors, so you can make any lenght :)

Hey, thanks for the advice. Could you give me an example? I'm Googling but just finding connectors as opposed to cables? Should I just get some of those and connect them to my existing cables?

EDIT: Looking further, I think you mean for me to use these when making my own. I am not the most practical!

@rhopkins:

Just take a look at a DJ store near you, or some webstores in your country.

Look for FAT diameter line cables. A proper line cable is about 4-5 mm thick, and the internal struckture looks like a coax cable.

They must have soft rubber outer surface, because they don't shrink much, and thed bend easily.

For connector Neutrik Only

For cable try: Proel, Accu Cable, Klotz, Cordial
for RCA try mono cable (1 warm line in the middle, and the shielding).

For connector and cables BTW the best thing to go is a proper audio shop, not a DJ shop, and go there by yourself, because sometimes they cut cables for the lenghts you want, and don't have to by a complete roll of cable.
You can try Car-Audio shops for stuff too.

A good cable can be cheap, but the connectors must be between 3-4 € or more.

If you want premade stuff, look for Neutrik, and ONLY. That is the best guaranteed no noise at all, the connectros are sturdy and tough, so they'll hold on.

(I have made roughly 30 cables or more so far, so I know whats the deal here).

Sommer cables ftw!

Same league as klotz and monster but way better price/value ratio!
