I think I'm going to sell my decks :(

Postby rhopkins on 27 Jun 2012, 21:29

Some of you might've seen my issues with the RC and in the past the issues with my laptop, what with it having a Sandybridge processor. I said previously that I felt like all my issues were stopping me from enjoying practicing and greatly reducing that practicing time.

The decks I have also feel like they contribute a little to this. With the lack of time, I don't think I give them the care and attention they deserve. Dust causes me issues and I think I have grounding issues, which comes together with the sandybridge/usb1 issues mentioned above. Calibration is something I have to do over and over because the signal drops out after about 30 mins. I just end up feeling disheartened. I also don't really understand about stylus/weights etc. I bought new stylus for my str8-100s but having fitted them I get dreadful signal and the signal itself isn't perfectly circular. I thought this might be a source of one of my problems, but clearly the stylus I had already were fine.

So with all of this, I just think maybe it's time I gave up...and got a U-Mix Control Pro and went fully digital. But am i wrong, will I still have a lot of issues?

Sorry for the emo post! But this is a bit of a dilemma for me!

EDIT: One other question, is there likely to be a new controller release from Mixvibes coinciding witht he release of Cross 2.0?

  there is a control pro 2 which has slight hardware changes that allows for 4 instead of three controls for sampler/locators, check out the posting ,,,put a link up later,,not suggesting selling your decks,,take better care,,,a MIDI controller is a good possibility and using one that can take advantage of tc vinal inputs would be a good choice to keep your options open,,  next thing is to have this topic thread give /get info to help you make a choice you can live with,,,

The problem is space. I don't have room for both unfortunately.

I'd love to keep the decks. But in 18 months of buying decks/Cross I haven't practiced as much as I'd liked, and probably spent a quarter of the time troubleshooting (maybe an exaggeration..!).

So considering time and space I'm just thinking at this stage that a controller would be better for me to continue learning.

Wonder how much the U-Mix Control Pro 2 will be...?

new u46 driver, maybe worth a shot

Yeah, I'm using that. I think it has made an improvement. But my right-hand deck has recently started showing a "wavy" signal, but still at 95-100% oddly. Hard to describe, but it wasn't entirely circular. I hadn't changed a thing. Tried new stylus and that was worse, a lot worse (stanton 505 stylus are discontinued and it's expensive to buy the whole headshell again). Trying to get refund for that...

Randomly I decided to swap the whole headshell/arm of each deck and now all seems better again. Really odd! I never had grounding wires ever since I started but I can hear in the background a lot of interference.

I just want to mix!!

Get a U-Mix Control Pro 2 from a shop where you can give it back if there are issues. Be sure to be able to - this is very important! If you have the U-Mix Control Pro 2 and it works flawlessly with your equipment and hardware you're ready to go and enjoy it. Otherwise I am afraid there is something seriously wrong with your laptop or turntables - sorry to say so :-(

Cheers,
A plus,

It would certainly seem wise to wait until that is released, whenever that will be.

I could try my girlfriends' Dell I suppose. Will do that at the weekend.

As I left things last night, after disconnecting most cables and reconnecting everything, swapping the front arm/headshell between the decks it was behaving the most stable I could remember in a while - nice clear signal, no interference. Proof will be a prolonged mix session.

Have to say, I noticed the summer clearance price and was very tempted! But I should be patient.

- swap cartridge between decks to see if the trouble go on the other side. If yes the issue is in the stylus/headshield. if not certainly the tonearm wiring.

- swap deck on the inputs to see if the trouble go on the other side. If yes the deck have the issue. If not the soundcard have the issue.

- try a cd player to see if you can have a perfect signal. If yes, vinyl must be dirty/worn, if not your inputs or soundcard is faulty (or maybe non compliant with your computer).

Keep us informed.
